      Great Teaching Hospital

      Pros

Wonderful teaching hospital. Magnet facility, level 1 trauma center and certified stroke center. Patient ratios are better than other health systems in the city & staff always seemed to step in and help each other out when needed.

      Cons

Hospital tends to pay less than other health systems in city. Additionally, float pool RNs who are new grads are paid more than experienced floor nurses simply because they are float pool. Many times these new grads can be burdensome to floor due to their inexperience. This is a hard pill to swallow because float pool nurses should be well rounded as they are expected to function in a variety of units. Often, they require assistance and correction which takes time from other staff who have their own patients & issues to contend with.

      Fulfilling profession

      Pros

You get to work interesting cases and learn a lot. Patients are driven/flown in from other hospitals and cities for our care. Doctors are physically present 24/7. Doctors and nurses work well together.

      Cons

Hours were cut if census was low (which is often in pediatrics) and you you get paid with your own PTO hours after THEY tell you not to come in. After sleeping all day preparing for night shift, you’d get a text an hour and a half before your shift starts telling you to not come in. They were cancelling shifts every single day to where it was my turn to get cancelled every other week.

      Pros

Nurse friendly, magnet status, great benefits, great facility, clinics and equipment. Great pay. Great hours. Leadership is visible,

      Cons

Not pediatric friendly. Pedi ER is mixed yet markets to mass public as pedi only. PEDI ER doctors are adult doctors but the system markets to the public that they are pedi certified. Markets PEDI Trauma yet we have no board certified Pedi trauma Surgeon.

Extremely toxic work environment from the CNO/administrators all the way down. They just hire their friends and not the qualified personnel and treat employees as numbers.
