I have been working at VHB full-time for more than 19 years

    Pros

At VHB, people really care about each other. Many of the offices have a lot of diversity at all levels and there are quite a few women in high leadership positions. There’s a lot of collaboration with a focus on interdisciplinary projects. The company and its employees really care about their communities and making them better places to live. The firm is fairly progressive in its values. The benefits are great. The generational...

    Cons

Work life balance is challenging for both younger junior staff and mid-level staff. Billability targets are high and many times it seems like offices are understaffed. VHB likes to acquire other firms which leads to mismatches in culture within the offices and many resources dedicated to those acquisitions. The management structure is top-heavy, and that means multiple layers of people who need to buy into any new ideas....

    Advice to Management

With as much focus put into the generational company model, it would help to evaluate how well it actually works in practice for each and every employee. It may work well for most people, but there may be pockets where it is not working as desired. Keep up the community involvement and philanthropy as that is something that really sets VHB apart from other firms.

I worked at VHB full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, flexible work schedule, great projects, great co-workers

    Cons

They have lost their way, and focus too much on growth vs. doing great work for clients. Unreasonable goals, not based in market reality. Senior management sitting on hands milking the company at the expense of middle and lower level employees. Stock ownership is a ponzu scheme.

    Advice to Management

Get back to empowering intra- and entrepreneurial behavior in the company. Give the nudge to those whose time has passed who are unproductive. Give more power to people outside of Watertown.

    Pros

Get to Drive company car thats about it.

    Cons

When I First started back in 2016 management was very professional but then started going to down hill through years and now its a complete joke. If you want a 2 week paycheck of under $100 dollars then this could be for you. Used to be able to work nights for safety purposes so you don't have to work in heavy traffic. New management started getting at us about that and wanted us to work at 7 am. Have you ever left your...

I have been working at VHB full-time

    Pros

Decent benefits and peers are generally nice. Leftover lunches for staff.

    Cons

Understaffed, growing too quickly. Executives have been there forever (30 + years) and have never worked at any other company so they can't see the grass on the other side. Promotions based on longevity, not because of relevant experience. Average salaries average, nothing great. High billability - but you won't be told this until your feet are in the door.

    Advice to Management

Older execs should retire and provide advancement to millennials. Would probably be a more fun atmosphere and generate more revenue.
