I worked at VSS Monitoring full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent company to work with. Martin had the vision that many competitors didnt have and we were always first in the market with new products

    Cons

Once Danaher made the decision to sell the company to Netscout the management team from Danaher was brought in to micro-manage the business through the acquisition.

    Advice to Management

    No need......now part of Netscout

    Pros

Good benefits, backed by Danaher Corporation.

    Cons

Product overlap and channel conflict with Danaher siblings in the Test & Measurement Group. Took 1.5 years to resolve after NetScout acquisition.

    Advice to Management

too many VPs came and went

    Pros

a few nice people there...... Netscout tried to change some product lines which make sense......

    Cons

the mid level managers treats his/her employees like a slave and a door mat. Upper levels knew the situation but did nothing. The culture is super toxic, people blame on each other on all levels. Cliques, gossips and blaming games...... Pay is relatively low comparing to industry average.

    Advice to Management

    speechless

    Pros

There are some nice people working there - just not in management.

    Cons

A good company at one time. Began a downhill spiral when it began to grow and they brought in management whose entire work history was spent at Cisco and who lacked the knowledge on how to manage a dynamic, fast moving company. The founder of the company left under questionable circumstances. Then most of the executive staff was laid-off. VSS was acquired twice, and I watched as all the people who had made the company successful left for greener pastures. Some quarters, the attrition rate was as high as 24%. An Indian engineering manger outsourced many of the engineering jobs to Indian contractors. And, I couldn't help but notice that, during a recent company layoff, it was the white people that were let go while Indians kept their jobs. Definitely some reverse discrimination going on there. The technology being used for s/w development is definitely behind the times. So not a good company to sharpen your technical skills.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and get rid of the Engineering management. Stop outsourcing jobs and hire people who have some emotional investment in the company. Not simply contractors who view it as another paycheck.

    Pros

Family atmosphere from the Director level and down. Great vision, Great Product potential. Conveniently located in the heart of Silicon Valley.

    Cons

Leadership........ Pay, Personal time always effected. Always stressed about the next political struggle. VP turn over is crazy until Danaher came in and placed their Drones...

    Advice to Management

Believe in your people and trust them to carry the company where it needs to go. Kizan is not always the best way.......

I have been working at VSS Monitoring full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employees who were not committed and not contributing are now gone
    Improved focus and stronger future
Merger with Netscout should be a positive given strong leadership and constant positive results. Go to Glass Door and read their reviews
Netscout should bring an improved high technology emphasis
    Great products and technology
Dedicated and very knowledgeable associates remain committed to making VSS best in our business

    Cons

A lot of recent negative reviews from employees who have left but the culture seems to be more positive with the changes

While some times it's hard, companies need to go through changes in order to progress to the next level. People struggle and say negative things but those who stay end up winners. Don't listen to the negative comments. People who leave companies leave for a reason and it's not always because the company is bad. A few leaders have left and are creating a negative buzz which is not deserved.

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on making VSS a positive environment
Remember your associates are your best asset
Keep improving the focus and growing the business beyond a startup mentality
Ensure people stay through the merger transition so they can see the great company VSS can be growing to the next level

    Pros

none at this point unless you are looking become part of a larger company after acquisition.

    Cons

no near term or long term positive outlook. Most of the A players have left the company in droves and a lot of the remaining are looking to leave. Lots of open headcount but can't fill them with qualified people. management is simply trying not to sink the boat before the netscout acquisition. Low morale overall throughout the company

    Advice to Management

recognize the fact that most of the people are unhappy and are looking for other jobs. Keep the ones you want with retention bonuses to stay until the acquisition or you will be processing an increasing number of exit interviews in the next few months

    Pros

There are advancement opportunities because hiring within is a promoted.
Because of high turnover, there is an opportunity to change career paths if you have proven yourself within the executive management structure.
The executive management team has improved since the CEO left.
    The technology is good.

    Cons

There is constant change in executive management even before they were bought by Danaher.
They are in the middle of being purchased/merged again.
The executive management team still needs to step back from micro-managing.
Very high turnover within all departments.
Because of the constant change of executives and senior management, you have to prove your abilities repeatedly.
VP of marketing and product management hires experienced PLMs but then won’t let go of product management at the lower level to them. Same problem with other departments that report up to him. This causes a breakdown in authority for the reporting structure as well as confusion in product direction with the PLMs and others within the lower levels of the reporting structure.

    Advice to Management

Marketing & Product Management: After you hire experienced people, let them do their job.
