    Pros

Good technology. Researchers especially take great pride in their work, and truly care about the quality of their product. The application group has a fair amount of autonomy, so developers with good track records are allowed to do their thing without a lot of outside interference. There isn't a lot of software development going on in New Jersey anymore, so this is a good way to stay in the area.

    Cons

Company is research oriented, not business oriented, Used to be a cutting edge technology, but is now more of a ho-hum underlying slice of the pie. Voxware is still having trouble finding its niche. Has a history of inexperienced management.

    Advice to Management

    Develop vertical markets. Communicate.

    Pros

Voxware treats employees with respect, listening for input and acting on viable suggestions. The compensation is fair and arguably better than average. The environment is one of trust and cooperation which makes it fun to go to work everyday.

    Cons

Voxware sells a product that is challenging to position and the sales cycle is lengthy.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, it works!

I worked at Voxware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good natured and well intentioned people
    Interesting product
    Good customers
    Minimal micromanaging
Good mix of development and sales focus

    Cons

Very harsh sales environment - major competitor is vastly larger with much better partnerships
Lots of turnover - layoffs included
    Minimal career advancement opportunities

    Advice to Management

Continually evaluate the key contributors and get their input - you don't know everything and what's harm?
Pay your people - if someone seems like a deal, they're going to leave

Mr .Philips maybe was the greatest salesmen but sucks as CEO.

    Advice to Management

Keith Philips it the worst CEO in Voxware history.

    I worked at Voxware full-time

    Pros

The folks are very nice, especially the Cambridge office. The core technology is decent, especially if you're into voice or audio.

    Cons

A bit too hectic there. Would be fine if this were a startup with a new product and needed to sacrifice stability in order to get that hot product in the market. But no, this company has been around for a long time and still there's a feeling of instability or stagnation. The new execs are young, bright and energetic though. However even they seemed to have been ushered in hastily and with little prior experience. Turnover still seems awfully high for a company that needs to build competitive and relevant products and all the innovation seems entrusted in a few who are well past their glory days.

    Advice to Management

Aim for stability? Create openings for fresh young talent. Shift from a research focused outfit, to a product focused one. No way you can compete with the big dogs of research anyway. Think about your employees personal lives a bit. Are they happy?

I worked at Voxware full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting work and fun to watch the results of my efforts impact the real world.

    Cons

Credit for technical contributions not given. Management asks for one thing then expects something completely different. Secretive and erratic management. Frequent purges of top management left the company rudderless and struggling for extended periods. I advise potential employees, particularly software developers, to look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

The upper management - Keith Phillips, the CEO in particular - asked for integrity and good communication from us employees. Unfortunately, he does not feel that he should deliver these things himself. Without warning, and after supposedly being a "star employee" for over 13 years I was suddenly fired by this man. No explanation was given for what I had done wrong. While Voxware has had bad CEO's for years, Keith Phillips is the worst in a long line of them. Scott Yetter was much better, but not very good either. I hope that Voxware can find better management before it's too late.
