Pros

Good benefits Good people Good variety of work Finally getting good technology (skype, surface hubs, touchscreen computers, iPhones, etc) in major office locations

Cons

Losing touch with employees fast Management doesn't communicate real information to employees at all. It's more high level and no one really knows how to apply it to their day to day work. It's been coming across for years that management doesn't have a clear goal and can't seem to provide clear goals to individual departments. Too many unimportant departments with self made scope of work. Departments are confusing and causing a lot of interdepartmental fighting. Seems like departments were created to give friends of management opportunities in management, rather than an actual need for the department. No focus on engineering improvement. Says they are operations focused, but it feels more like Project Management, Project Controls & IT focused. Employees are confused that project management = engineering. Construction and Land departments get away with so much monitary waste. Our IT structure is almost a 1:1 ratio of IT employees to project employees. Why do we have so much IT? From an employee on the project side, I barely get support from IT. What do they do? Thought Williams was a pipeline company. Becoming more of a status focused company (management more important) instead of focusing on employees and their ideas, feedback, development and happiness. Company is changing into a fear based workplace. Managers are focused on the negative and petty things vs showing appreciation towards the employees that do good work and focusing on positives. Used to be a wonderful place to work. Now, many are wanting to jump ship.

Pros

Benefits are good. Other than that.. nothing else.

Cons

1. They have no clue what they're doing. Williams bought Sequent, a trading shop, to market their natural gas. But, here is the kicker, they don't want to take any risk, zero! Which is a horrible position to take if your going to trade. 2. Everyone is on a letter of credit that isn't investment grade. Even highly rated companies are wrapped in insurance! Even Exxon! They say it's to get down their cost, but they still overpay for the insurance coverage. 3. The manager is completely clueless on how to run a credit department. Not to mention, a TOTAL MICROMANAGER! 4. Ask some simple questions. What is my DOA (hint: its zero). How much do you give credit to non-investment grade companies (hint: it's zero). Will I learn to rate non-public rated companies? (hint: No). Bottom line, you will not learn anything. You're will end up being an admin. You'll end up doing horrible manual tasks that will not be transferable to any other company. In addition. The Houston office WILL move to Tulsa. It might take a year or 2, but it will move. They will tell you that it isn't (it's a lie). Do you want to be out on the street in a year, looking for a job again? If the answer is no, don't even consider this place. They were never honest about the true intentions of the role when I was hired, They will tell you ANYTHING to get you in the door. They're desperate to get bodies in seats..

Pros

On the outset Williams is a great company to work for. You can get hired easily if you know someone. Relatives, especially sons and daughters are automatic hires. Pay is average with the industry, benefits are good and the work is easy. You can get away with doing almost nothing for your entire career here and never get fired. I knew of several employees personally who were doing just that. It's a widespread issue throughout the company. (Type A personalities stay away!)

Cons

This place is 100 lawsuits waiting to happen. I couldn't believe the amount of immaturity, unprofessionalism and corruption I witnessed from upper management on a day-to-day basis. This company is run by a network of good ol boys, 50 plus in age who just won't retire and continue to take the company down a very negative path. They have successfully cultivated a crooked culture of looking the other way when something iffy happens and HR is powerless to do anything about it. Young employees are treated poorly. You are faced with the decision to put your head down and tough it out or quit. Diversity (or lack thereof) is still a real issue especially in the field where racial tensions are still an issue. Because Williams has become so incestuous (many engineers and employees are hired because of family/friend ties), that leaves about 10% of the employees doing 80% of the work.
