I worked at Zix (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pleasant place to work; people are talented and friendly; company values its employees; work is interesting.

    Cons

None I can think of; would be happy to work there again.

    Pros

Some of the management people are fantastic; they listen to concerns, explain things as necessary, don't have totally unreasonable expectations, etc. As of the time I left in 2014, this includes the head of HR, Sales VP, and Finance Director, as specifically great people.

Location at Cityplace is literally on top of a DART station, so taking the train worked out REALLY well for me.

Free drinks (sodas, water, coffee) all the time in the break room.

    Cons

Overtime expected during high-stress times, generally on a quarterly schedule.

VERY unstable number of sales reps, with high turnover. The ones who stick it out generally stay for a long time and are well-compensated, but there's only a few of those.

Not a lot of career advancement available. There is SOME, but very limited. Raises are available without getting a title change, but not guaranteed annually.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone was good at a job doesn't automatically mean they will be good at SUPERVISING people doing that job.

    Pros

Most people work 40 hour week, occasional overtime here and there. Fairly good communication channels are in place. Decent management who know what they're doing.

    Cons

Lots of pressure in certain roles, very little in others. Little room for advancement. Lots of background knowledge is tied up in senior employees and is necessary to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Focus on structuring teams in a way that they can succeed, rather than fixating on agile development.

I have been working at Zix full-time

    Pros

Serious place to work but not overbearing. Good pay, benefits. Reasonable about flex time. Best company culture I have experienced.

    Cons

Location is inconvenient to most everyone, but it is a nice building and DART helps.

    Advice to Management

Prioritize tasks in order to improve existing products rather than adding features or products too hastily.

I have been working at Zix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive compensation to other similar companies.

    Cons

Client Services division gets results at the expense of staff. No compensation is worth that kind of treatment. If you are not an engineer, or a white male, you will be mistreated or marginalized.

    Advice to Management

Client Services leadership is only concerned with bonuses and needs to change. You may "get results" but the way staff is treated is resented. That means you won't get anyone recommending people come work at Zix. In fact, you'll get the opposite.

  11. "Good place for developers"

    Star Star Star Star Star

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Good environment to learn new technologies, everybody is laid-back and very friendly. Good opportunity to work in very hands-on environment, small groups, good benefits in terms of salary and time off.

    Cons

Major decisions made by people who have no long term strategy or vision for the company. Not enough focus on marketing/sales, so don't make money.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to make money.
