Takes Extreme Advantage of Employees

Pros

The pros of this job is that the team members are typically kind and supportive, and the clients are often Fortune 500 companies with big names which (hopefully) looks good on a resume.

Cons

Simpleshow does not compensate their workers fairly. Management expects writers to be available 9-5 on Monday through Friday to answer questions, communicate, and do work on tight deadlines. (Often outside of these hours as well.) Despite the expectation of full-time availability, writing at simpleshow is only a part-time job with no benefits, no salary and no hourly wage. Writers are paid by the run-time of the projects they create, regardless of how many rounds of revisions the client requests per simpleshow's "unlimited revision" policy. In a full calendar year of working at simpleshow I made approximately $5k, even though I took on as many projects as I could at any given time. When I took on other part-time jobs, as was obviously necessary due to the wages at simpleshow, it was discouraged because it took away from the hours I could be available.

Pros

Good coworkers Work with lots of big companies

Cons

I was surprised to see so many positive reviews, but realized most of them seem to be from the sales side. The creative side is a different story. The push for more output in less time with the same amount of resources has negatively affected the quality of the products that are created. Even with the very common 50-60hr weeks (with no overtime) some employees work, too much is still piled on, especially during busy times of the year. When the topic of work/life balance and more time is brought up, management would rather blame employees for “not being efficient” (aka not working even more hours) than spend more money on needed resources. There is no dedicated HR person to bring up issues with upper management, meaning they get away with unacceptable and rude behavior with no consequences. For example, making comments expressing doubts in employee’s intelligence and capabilities for minor human errors or grievances. The culture of toxic positivity at this company has enabled these issues because leaders think employees should feel very grateful for working there and devote themselves to their jobs to an unhealthy level. Plus, forget being sick or family emergencies, employees are typically still expected to complete all their work. Since everyone is overflowing with their own work, there is no backup plan. There is huge turnover as well. Unfortunately, it seems the company is slowly transitioning to phasing out U.S. freelancers/FTEs entirely in favor of lower cost workers in other countries that they are training up. On top of all this, the pay isn’t great and raises are few and far between (don’t expect one every year).

Pros

I’ve worked at simpleshow for over 5 years and the products we sell are top notch! Our clients love us and our quality of work is second to none. Also, my colleagues and leaders are fantastic! I’ve had tremendous support and professional development throughout my tenure here at simpleshow. I’ve been given many opportunities to grow while contributing to the company’s success. The culture is like no other, we have a dog-friendly office, a pool table in the common area (in case you need a mental break), monthly happy hours and quarterly birthday celebrations; we’re all one happy family! Management (CEO & Director of US & UK) encourage creative ideas, they love suggestions and really take the time to listen to you. You definitely feel like your voice is heard! If you get the chance to interview with simpleshow and if you’re one of the lucky few to receive an offer, don’t think twice about it, just do it! simpleshow is growing year-after-year and if you wait too long, it’ll be extremely competitive to work with us in the future.

Cons

Parking can sometimes be tricky, but I'm sure within time there will be more parking lots available as it's still an up-and-coming area.
