The end of destruction at Blue Grass completes the United States’ commitment to destroy its stockpile of chemical weapons before September 30, 2023 as a party to the Chemical Weapons Convention treaty ratified in 1997.

Last munition safely processed in Colorado Bechtel announced today that the final munition in the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot stockpile of mustard agent-filled munitions has been safely destroyed. The team destroyed more than 780,000 projectiles and mortar rounds through three munitions destruction campaigns, made up of three different sizes of chemical weapons. The remainder of the U.S. chemical weapons stockpile is being destroyed at the Blue Grass Army Depot, Ky., by a Bechtel-led team and is expected to finish destruction operations soon.
Bechtel Celebrates Completion of Elizabeth Line Bechtel announced today that it has successfully completed its work on the Crossrail project in London with the Elizabeth line now running to its final timetable of up to 24 trains per hour in peak times and providing travel across the railway’s 73-mile (118km) length and at all 41 stations. The timetable marks the final stage of the three-phase opening of the railway that improves connections to Heathrow Airport, across London, and to stations in the East and West.

First Steel Delivery for NASA’s Mobile Launcher 2 The significance of this delivery marks the readiness to begin construction this summer. Bechtel today announced continued progress on NASA’s mobile launcher 2 as steel arrived on site for the first time earlier this month. Through our partnership with NASA, Bechtel is constructing mobile launcher 2 for Artemis missions. Mobile launcher 2 will be used to assemble and process the next iterations of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket for Artemis IV to travel to the Moon and eventually Mars. “The success of the completed Integrated Critical Design Review (ICDR) and now our first steel delivery are two recent milestones that reflect the team’s dedication and drive,” said Bechtel Project Manager, Felice Presti. “We remain committed to our mission of permanently changing the landscape at Kennedy, and supporting the proud history and legacy of our customer, NASA.”
Bechtel Names New WTP Project Director Brian Hartman, a 40-year Bechtel veteran, joins the WTP team Bechtel today named Senior Vice President Brian Hartman as project director for the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) project at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hanford Site in Washington state. Hartman is a 40-year Bechtel veteran with extensive leadership experience. “Brian is an exceptional leader with a proven talent for building strong partnerships with customers and creating high-performance teams,” said John Howanitz, president of Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security, and Environmental business. “His deep experience on complex projects and across all aspects of project management and execution, from development to startup and commissioning, makes him an ideal choice to lead the WTP project forward.”
