The late Bechtel executive at WTP honored as 2023 ENR Top Newsmaker Bechtel announced today that Valerie McCain, the late project manager at the Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) in Washington state, was named a Top 25 Newsmaker for 2023 by Engineering News-Record magazine. McCain, who passed away after a short illness in March 2023, was honored for leading the WTP team to achieve key milestones in building a vitrification complex to clean up liquid nuclear waste remaining from the World War II Manhattan Project and the Cold War.
More than 250 industry representatives attended the two-day session Westinghouse Electric Company and Bechtel hosted a two-day symposium in Warsaw to highlight AP1000® reactor supplier opportunities for Poland’s new nuclear energy program. Representatives from more than 100 companies representing the civil construction, mechanical and electrical industries attended the event. The AP1000® reactor program will drive significant opportunities for Polish industry to help launch a new era of clean and secure energy for the nation. Poland’s Vice Minister of Climate Adam Guibourge-Czetwertynski offered opening remarks, along with Daniel Lawton, Deputy Chief of Mission from the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw.
Sempra Launches Port Arthur LNG Project Issues final notice to proceed to Bechtel Sempra (NYSE: SRE) (BMV: SRE) today announced that its 70%-owned subsidiary, Sempra Infrastructure Partners, LP (Sempra Infrastructure), reached a positive final investment decision (FID) for the development, construction and operation of the Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 project in Jefferson County, Texas.
Bechtel Selected to Build Two New Motorways in North Macedonia Bechtel and joint-venture partner ENKA have been selected by the Government of North Macedonia to build two new motorways in the country. The first, known as corridor 8, is an east-west route connecting the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea through Albania, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria. The second, known as corridor 10d, is a key component of the Pan-European Transport Corridor 10, connecting Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Greece. The new motorways will be one 110 kilometres (68 miles) in total. Construction will start in 2023.
Bechtel to Deliver Electric School Bus Charging Infrastructure Company will build infrastructure to support electric vehicle charging for North America’s largest school bus operator Bechtel was selected by First Student, the largest provider of student transportation services in North America, to support its industry-leading electrification efforts. Bechtel will immediately start designing and building charging stations for one of First Student’s electrification projects in the U.S. The two companies intend to partner on more electric vehicle deployments in the future, with Bechtel providing engineering, procurement, and construction services.
Bechtel, Westinghouse Hold Forum for Czech Republic Suppliers A Westinghouse-Bechtel team this week hosted an event for representatives from 55 Czech companies to discuss opportunities to support the expansion of the civil nuclear power program in the Czech Republic. “The Czech Republic has committed to meeting increasing electricity demands while reducing carbon emissions and reliance on coal and other fossil fuels,” said Ahmet Tokpinar, general manager of Bechtel’s Nuclear Power business line. “The time is now to begin engagement with potential suppliers in the Czech Republic and we look forward to building lasting partnerships.”
Bechtel to Conduct Engineering Study for Battery Tech Production Helping Sicona Battery Technologies plan the construction of an electric vehicle battery component manufacturing site in the United States. Bechtel was awarded a contract by Sicona Battery Technologies to perform an engineering study for a U.S. manufacturing plant that will produce the cutting-edge battery anode components needed for electric vehicles. “Bechtel will help Sicona deliver a long-lasting positive impact on the electric vehicle revolution,” said Catherine Hunt Ryan, President of Manufacturing & Technology at Bechtel. “Making batteries is a complex process. Bechtel is a trusted partner to deliver capital programs so that our customers can focus on evolving and deploying their technology.”
