At Cartier, we feel lucky to welcome interns across our teams worldwide each year. We invest in providing a stimulating international professional experience and ensure they work on meaningful projects. With follow-ups throughout their journey, they are always encouraged to learn, grow and unlock their full potential. “I am very proud to have completed my end-of-studies internship at Cartier. This experience mainly allowed me to grow professionally by developing my marketing skills and becoming more autonomous and proactive. It also allowed me to confirm my career choice.” Antonella, International Fragrance Product Development Intern.
In February, Cartier North America partnered with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to host the first-ever Cartier Innovation Challenge. The Thurgood Marshall Fund carries forward the legacy of Justice Thurgood Marshall by championing the ambitions of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students through scholarships, upskilling and equity programs, and career opportunities with top-tier organizations. The Cartier Innovation Challenge was strategically designed to provide diverse, high-achieving students with the tools they need to be successful entrepreneurs. Over the course of three days, Cartier invited 16 students from HBCUs to focus on two business challenges that Cartier is currently facing. Throughout the week, Cartier team members acted as mentors and coaches to the students, offering valuable insights and perspectives. The teams presented their final pitches to a team of judges at the end of the week, and the winning team will be hosted for a visit at the Cartier North America headquarters in New York City this summer.
Cartier is strongly committed to create opportunities for interaction and sharing between students, professors and business leaders. "Cultivating this on-going dialogue is a strong source of inspiration for us,” says Béatrice Wenzel-Lux-Krönig our Senior Vice President - Chief Human Resources Officer. “It’s really enriching to get students’ fresh perspective around key business and societal topics.” As part of our exclusive partnership with SDA Bocconi, we co-designed a brand new module on ‘Arts & Culture’ for the Executive Master in Luxury Management – EMiLUX.
Cartier North America is pleased to share that the first-ever Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Employee Council has been selected for the new fiscal year. The chosen ten council members will serve as representatives of their teams and regions and will work to ensure that the Maison's DE&I initiatives align with the needs and opportunities of all our teams and operating locations. “Having a formal committee of employees devoted to addressing issues related to DE&I is a substantial positive development for Cartier North America, and we look forward to seeing how the team collaborates together in partnership with Erica Lovett, Head of DE&I, to create positive change within the Maison,” says Mercedes Abramo, President and CEO of Cartier North America.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Cartier North America employees participated in the Story (Any)Time initiative (in partnership with New York Cares). Story (Any)Time is an online learning library that features recordings of volunteers reading children’s stories aloud, which is then shared with New York City elementary school students who can log on and listen to the story – at any time. The program was created in response to the current pandemic, and aims to promote literacy, limit learning loss, and alleviate the mental health effects of social distancing among children in NYC. Our volunteers created 21 unique videos with themes that reflect the values that MLK Jr. embodied. Some volunteers read books with their family members and pets, and the recordings were sent to PS 140M, an elementary school in lower Manhattan. This initiative highlighted and put into action the Cartier values of open-mindedness, generosity and sharing, and is just one of the many volunteer opportunities at the Maison. At Cartier North America, we believe in the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion must play in all aspects of our business, and we have committed ourselves to taking real actions that will help us evolve and deepen our focus on creating a workplace culture that is welcoming to all. We are pleased to announce the hire of Erica Lovett, our first Diversity and Inclusion Executive. In this role, Erica will report directly to Cartier North America President and CEO Mercedes Abramo to create and spearhead the implementation of a diversity and inclusion roadmap to ensure we are creating an inclusive culture at Cartier North America that results in real, meaningful impact.
As a Maison, our creativity is nurtured and inspired by the diverse cultures of the world. We find our own richness in this diversity, and we stand firmly against all forms of racism directed toward the black community. At this moment we are examining our own company to identify actions we can take that will result in real change.
As we navigate these current times, Cartier is committed to keeping a spirit of giving at the forefront of our actions. We are proud to share that Cartier Philanthropy – Cartier's grant-making foundation – has donated funds to COVID-19 response efforts around the world including to three U.S. based organizations: Visiting Nurse Service of New York, Harlem Children's Zone, and DonorsChoose: Keep Kids Learning. These donations will provide immediate assistance to some of the most vulnerable in our communities with a focus on serving families, children, and nurses on the front lines.
As the world navigates an unprecedented challenge, Cartier’s highest priority is the health and welfare of our valued teams, clients and partners. We have therefore taken strict precautions to minimize the risk of transmission of Covid-19 within our communities by progressively reducing activities in our boutiques, production sites and offices. Our measures are always aligned with World Health Organisation guidelines and local health officials, and we continue to adjust our approach as necessary. Governments around the world are acting quickly and there are positive signs of a downward trend in new cases in early affected countries which makes us hopeful we will overcome this pandemic. As soon as it is safe, we will have the pleasure to welcome you all again to share and enjoy our unique creations. We are truly inspired by the demonstration of solidarity between the people, communities and nations coming together during these uncertain times. Please stay safe. Cartier wishes you and your loved ones well.
We were pleased to host 20 students of the Fashion and Luxury MBA program from NYU Stern School of Business in our Cartier offices in Paris during their European trip. We had inspiring discussions about the development cycle of jewelry pieces and high jewelry creations. Our Maison keeps pushing the boundaries of creativity and savoir-faire to develop timeless pieces.
