A big congratulations to all the graduates of Channel 4’s New Writers Scheme! Over the last 9 months, twenty new writers have taken part in expert industry training and mentoring from scripted indies and a script editor, building their skills, knowledge and networks. With all writers having now submitted their final spec scripts for feedback from the Channel 4 Drama team, the group gathered together to celebrate their achievements at a graduation event in London last week. Ran by 4Skills, our New Writers Scheme first ran as a pilot in the West and South West of England back in 2022, and has since expanded to work with emerging writers located near Channel 4’s regional hubs: Bristol, Glasgow and Leeds. It aims to nurture underrepresented writing talent, focussing on diverse, regional and authentic voices who have a flair for television drama ✨ .

For 20 years, Channel 4 News' FactCheck team has driven the agenda on some of the biggest issues on the domestic and international stage. Today the brand takes a significant leap forward as we launch 'NurseCheck' - one of the largest projects undertaken by our small, pioneering team of data journalists and data scientists, in partnership with our health unit. After a ten-month investigation, FactCheck has uncovered a vast database of confidential NHS records that have been hidden from the public since 2019. The data reveals that one in three hospitals in England are missing more than 10% of the nurses they had planned for, with neonatal, maternity and critical care wards amongst the worst affected. To support audiences digest the data we've created 'NurseCheck' - an interactive, public information service that allows users to see how many nurses are missing from their hospitals. Combining insight and investigative journalism with digital-first content-making, we demonstrate the power of data journalism as a tool for public engagement. We commend the FactCheck team for their dedication on this groundbreaking work in the public interest. ➡️ Head over to NurseCheck now: https://lnkd.in/e7MT-wH4
❔Do you know where to get mental health support? 🧠Because Student Minds’ 2023 study highlighted that 1 in 4 students didn’t… This is why we hosted a special event last week with Campaign Against Living Miserably, Student Minds, and the cast of Big Boys to shine a light on University Mental Health Day! Following Big Boys’s emotional final episodes Clara Amfo moderated a panel to discuss the programme themes, raise awareness and signpost available support: Watch the video to hear what panellist Wendy Robinson had to say (but please be aware it does include discussions around suicide). #UniMentalHealthDay
Today, Channel 4 Sales has announced it will introduce an advertising emissions measurement tool for its advertisers. It marks a broadcast industry first move – offering advertisers emissions data about digital campaigns running on Channel 4’s owned and operated platforms. We’re pleased to collaborate with sustainable technology platform Scope3 to make this possible, as Channel 4 Sales continues to put sustainability at the top of its agenda.
