Yesterday at Advertising Association’s LEAD event Rak Patel, Chief Commercial Officer at Channel 4, spoke on the issue of trust in advertising building on Channel 4’s report Gen Z: Trends, Truth and Trust. He emphasised that while the report shows Gen Z are facing growing uncertainty in who and what to trust, and struggling with the concept of truth they have more trust in advertising than their older peers, and said that as an industry, our focus now should be on how we can keep growing that trust. On Monday 20th January, chosen from 8,000 applications, 36 apprentices joined Channel 4. 13 apprentices joined our Leeds HQ, 19 in London, 2 in Glasgow and one both in Bristol and Manchester. Their apprenticeships, which range from 12-18 months, are with a wide range of departments including 4Studio, 4creative, Finance, Film4, Commissioning and Creative Diversity and much more. Channel 4’s Head of Partnerships & Skills Kevin Blacoe said: "Breaking into the broadcasting industry can be challenging, which is why it's essential to create opportunities that allow young people to explore and understand the diverse career paths within the creative sectors. By providing hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to the various roles in broadcasting, we can help them gain valuable insights and build the skills necessary to succeed in this competitive field." The call to action follows new Channel 4 research revealing the scale of the challenges facing Gen Z in an era where platforms have “publicly announced a wanton abandonment of the pursuit of truth”.
