What does Women’s History Month mean to you? It is an opportunity to recognize and focus on the many contributions women have made to the world. There are so many women in history, whether it be sports, business or academia that have sacrificed and fought to enable us the opportunities that we have to be successful today. We need to continue to be part of the change and carry the torch for the next generations to come. Which important issue(s) impacting female professionals do you want to bring more awareness to during Women’s History Month? Equal pay and gender bias. What is a women’s organization that you would like to raise awareness about? The Women + Cybersecurity = Women's Society of Cyberjutsu is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to raising awareness of cybersecurity career opportunities and advancement for women in the field, closing the gender gap and the overall workforce gap in these roles.

What is a women's organization that you’d like to raise awareness about? American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a non-profit organization that advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. A favorite book to read my daughters is “Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Tales of Extraordinary Women” so they can see the amazing accomplishments of powerful women. Women’s History Month takes storytelling to the next level by allowing us to honor the trailblazers of the past while acknowledging we still have much work to do. The reality is women still face systemic barriers and wider gaps in opportunity, salary, and equality. We need more women in leadership positions to drive progress and give our girls even more role models.

I'm very much enjoying the challenge of all of the different types of issues we receive, and each challenge is a new learning experience for me. Previous position: Service Desk Engineer I | New Position: Service Desk Engineer II Tenure: I've been working with Dataprise for almost three years, having started out as an intern on the PC Depot Team What are you enjoying most about your new position? I enjoy helping out our small group in Tier 2 and working with end-users to fix any issues they are experiencing. I genuinely enjoy learning and being around engineers that can assist with anything I am stuck on. A lot of the other Tier 2 engineers have made it easy and exciting to learn new things on a daily basis which continuously helps me to get better at providing technical support. How does Dataprise encourage employee success? Initially, I did not have much IT experience, but the Talent Acquisition team at Dataprise reached out to me about an internship opportunity that changed my life in 2019. The opportunity to solve large-scale challenges in collaboration with the other department heads. I’ve always prided myself on being a problem-solver and it’s exciting to be able to apply those skills towards impacting the entire business and not just a single team or specific customers. How does Dataprise encourage employee success? Mentorship and leadership. During my time at Dataprise, I’ve been able to learn from peers with more technical experience or tenure. I’ve had managers that laid out a career path for me, challenged me, and recognized when I was ready to move up to the next level. We talk about our culture a lot at Dataprise and for me it starts with information sharing and collaboration. You don’t know what you don’t know and there’s always something you can learn from someone if you have the right mindset. Now in this position, it’s incumbent upon me to pay the mentorship I received forward to the teams that support me.

Learn more about Willie, one of our Network Associates. What does Black History Month mean to you? Black History Month means a lot to me. Not only does it spotlight the history and legacy of African Americans, but it also challenges us as a population to reflect on racial issues which aren't spotlighted very often. As a Black employee, what has your experience been working at Dataprise? I've had a great experience with Dataprise. They truly see no color, and I know that my race will not play a factor in my growth or professional development with the business.

Black History Month provides a focus on the wide-scale contributions and achievements (both well-known and newly-known) of Blacks of the past and present. This is very important in reminding ourselves, as Blacks, that we have always been capable of great things and we can and will be capable of more to come. What specific cause or organization do you feel best represents and supports the African American community? I would recommend the Society of Black Engineers. For youth and those in need of mentorship, I would look into the 100 Black Men and a personal favorite that focuses on impoverished communities is Computer Village.

Black History Month is important to me because it represents change, unifying voices, understanding black history, and rewriting the narrative that was once tarnished but, is now being understood. Although Black History Month is celebrated once a month for me Black history is everyday life. As a Black employee, what has your experience been working at Dataprise? At every level of our organization, I feel embraced and at home. This was a major part of my decision-making process when choosing to join Dataprise and also appreciate that we have Employee Resource Groups that allow me to feel included. There is a concerted effort to embrace the importance of all cultures, creeds, religions, ethnicities, and diversity at Dataprise.
