Do you still use a flash drive? While we don’t, we must pay our respects to the tech that inspired the need for Dropbox on National Flash Drive Day. Over ten years ago, co-founder Drew Houston started writing the base code for what would later become Dropbox on a bus from Boston to New York when he realized he had forgotten his flash drive. In remembering our start, we’re grateful for what Drew forgot because it brought us to where we are today!
We take collaboration very seriously at Dropbox, and in a Virtual First workplace, it’s more important than ever. Last week we held our Better Together Summit to explore how we can all contribute to helping the world work better in 2021—read about some of the highlights in a new blog post.
Next week we officially kick off adopting full on Virtual First work practices. Moving our entire company into our new Virtual First work environment, was more than just declaring a remote work strategy and took months of tireless research and collaboration from Dropboxers across our organization. As we close out Women's History Month, meet the woman who led the charge on the People end of things, Chief People Officer Melanie Collins, as she let us in on her global team’s responsibilities and process in our most recent blog post.
Our women in leadership have played a powerful role in helping our teams across the world migrate to a Virtual First environment. In honor of Women’s History Month, we asked them about the challenges they’ve faced and overcome in their quest to make the world work better.
“Use every opportunity, good or bad, to look inward and discover something about yourself. Consider everything you learn about yourself as a critical piece of data that you will use to continue to design your career. When you learn new information, use it to make small changes and always advocate for what you need.” Krishelle Hardson-Hurley Bethune shared with Fairygodboss the best pieces of advice that she has received during her career journey, from a teacher to a software engineer at Dropbox.
Who said that workplaces have to be so cutthroat? We believe in erring in the direction of kindness, and keeping diversity, equity, and inclusion at the heart of everything we do at Dropbox. Take a look back at our four other values for the full picture of what we stand for.
See something that could be better? Help make it better! We’re all about accountability and owning our work (and our mistakes) at Dropbox. If you relate to this idea, take a look back over the week at the other values that we hold close to our hearts.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the very heart of our culture at Dropbox. Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer Danny Guillory dropped into the Living Corporate podcast to chat about how we are going beyond performative actions to make Dropbox a better place to work—for everyone.
We believe the best tech should be easy to use and accessible to everyone. At Dropbox, our goal is to keep things simple, so people can halve their work and double their success. Stick with us on social this week to learn more about our other values.
Life at Dropbox is all about helping each other succeed—which starts with our users. When we give them the tools they need to work better, we all come out on top together. Keep an eye out over the next few days to learn more about our other values!
