We’re excited to see how our upcoming staff engineering summit will foster a sense of community that so many of us have missed during lockdown—and how it will do so using software tools that our team probably would never have discovered working from the office. Learn more about the ideas that sparked the summit from Royce Ausburn in his interview with Built In. #LifeInsideDropbox
“Because of #VirtualFirst, I was able to come back to Dropbox after leaving the Bay Area for Portland, OR. I feel so lucky to be back at Dropbox working with a high-performing team focusing on meaningful work. I also have developed a couple of side hustles—camper-van rentals and growing and selling flowers. Virtual First allows me the flexibility to pursue passion projects in addition to my day job.” - Emerging Talent team member Jordan Kessler on how our new work strategy has affected his life—for the better. #LifeInsideDropbox #EmergingTalent

“Working virtually, I had the opportunity to support and then move over fully to the Emerging Talent team—whereas before, being in Austin, it might not have been as clear of an option or an easy transition. Working from home has allowed me to cook and bake more, too!” - Jenna Hall on how #VirtualFirst has transformed both her career AND her Master Chef audition-worthy cooking skills. #LifeInsideDropbox
Perhaps the only group of people at Dropbox who is more go-getting than our Emerging Talent hires is the Emerging Talent team themselves. Meet half of them in a new blog post (and keep an eye out next week for more!)
If you had to choose one community, movement, or organization in which to make a positive impact, what would it be? Since going Virtual First, in which remote work is the primary experience for all Dropboxers, we’ve had over 70 employees move to new regions, supported in part by our relocation fund. Learn more about this and other Virtual First statistics in a new blog post!
Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month always reminds us of the importance of learning about and honoring our roots. Discover how we learned more about ourselves, each other, and how we carry our traditions into the future from our own Latinx Dropboxers in a short video!
This year’s theme for enABLE Heritage Month—Virtual First: real well-being—is largely built on and around our Virtual First strategy, and supporting well-being in a remote work setting. Behind Virtual First is the intention to rebuild work, but better. While burnout still exists, we can see where and how we might be able to make small, incremental shifts in how we all work together to improve everyones’ well-being. This is exactly what Virtual First is all about, and enABLE wants to bring the focus back to how we all might leverage this new way of working to buoy well-being, and support the needs of all Dropboxers—including those with visible or hidden disabilities. Keep an eye out throughout October for more enABLE Heritage Month stories!
