At EmblemHealth, we believe diversity and inclusion are fundamental to creating a strong workplace and community. This year we marked Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, with a virtual event focused on Unconscious Bias: Understanding Bias Versus Inclusive Thinking. We came together online to watch a video on social bias, complete a 'circle of trust' exercise to understand how inclusive we may or may not be personally or in the workplace, and learn how automatic thoughts influence behaviors and how to recognize our blind spots.
At EmblemHealth, our employees are as diverse as the communities we serve. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, and protests around the world, Donna Hughes, our Chief Human Resources Officer, guided a Fireside Chat on Social Crisis: Acknowledging, Coping & Moving Forward. Panelists discussed how systemic and ongoing racism impacts us socially and psychologically, what we can do individually and collectively to invoke positive change, and the coping skills we need to move forward. Thank you to our employee panelists for a thoughtful discussion.
Our EmblemHealth, ConnectiCare, and AdvantageCare Physicians leaders expressed their appreciation to team members across our family of companies and healthcare workers everywhere for their amazing support of our members and patients during this uncertain time.
It’s an honor for our team members to serve New York and a privilege to work with local organizations to provide meals for front line workers and individuals struggling to get groceries.
Bronx native and EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care regional manager, Veronica Noel, spoke to Bronx Voice about the importance of community ties during the COVID-19 outbreak. Although our centers are temporarily closed in compliance with social distancing guidelines, Veronica and our other care managers are still helping our members cope with anxiety, food insecurity, and other health concerns.
Rewarding and recognizing good work is a part of our culture. Our Marketplace Sales department recognized their individual product sales broker team for surpassing sales goals with a celebration. It was also an opportunity to welcome a few newly certified team members.
At EmblemHealth we value diversity because it drives innovation. One way we do this is through employee resource groups, such as RISE, which is dedicated to supporting and uplifting people of color. Employees celebrated Black History Month with a presentation on health and wellness topics that affect the black community, followed by a panel discussion on black Greek life, and a display of original artwork by employees. Employees were also treated to a jazz quartet performance!
Innovating and delivering excellent customer service is a big part of working at the EmblemHealth family of companies. Congratulations to the customer service team at ConnectiCare – part of our family of companies – for being recognized as finalists in the 2020 Stevie Awards. The Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service recognize the achievements of the contact center, customer service, business development, and sales professionals worldwide. To say thank you we surprised team members with pizza and balloons to celebrate.
