We looking for future problem solvers, innovators, and leaders! We are proud of our on-site partnership with ODU - and all our strong university partners nationwide to invest in the professional development of students. We recently celebrated the opening of our on-campus office at Old Dominion University. HII-NNS President Jennifer Boykin and ODU President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. participated in a ribbon-cutting event Friday to open the new NNS office and highlight the synergy between academia and industry, focused on engineering, business, technology, modeling and simulation, student engagement and the future of shipbuilding. The onsite office builds upon the 2023 announcement of NNS as the lead industry sponsor of the Monarch Accelerator Program to Engineering (MAP-to-E), which aims to increase the number of engineering and engineering technology majors and degrees, particularly from underrepresented and underserved communities in Hampton Roads. "[We are] proud to team with Old Dominion University on the professional development of students — not just in engineering, but university-wide,” Boykin said. “Our close bond demonstrates the impact of industry-education partnerships. Together, we are creating opportunities for future problem solvers, innovators, and leaders.”

HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division presented National Merit Scholarships to the children of employees on Friday, Aug. 2, during a luncheon at the shipyard. These scholarships, valued from $2,000 to $2,500 each, will be renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and can be used at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of the student’s choice. “The recipients of this year’s scholarships have shown exceptional academic promise, and we are honored to make this investment in their futures,” Ingalls Shipbuilding Vice President of Human Resources Susan Jacobs said. “Thank you to each of the recipients’ parents for nurturing your student over the years. You have exemplified hard work, dedication and commitment over the years and your efforts inspire us all.”
HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding Hosts Educators in Externships “Our externship program is strengthening the ties between industry and education while also providing first-hand understanding of the critical work we do at Ingalls in support of our military partners,” said Susan Jacobs, vice president of human resources at Ingalls Shipbuilding. “We hope each of these educators return to their classrooms with a deeper appreciation for the critical skills necessary to be a shipbuilder and the career opportunities available at Ingalls.”
“Construction is a science and an art, whether you’re building a ship or a house. The tools and materials may be a little different, but the builders’ dedication and pride is the same. Our shipbuilders are proud to support our Navy sailors and we’re proud to build this home.” We were proud to break ground on the 22nd Habitat for Humanity home sponsored by our Newport News Shipbuilding division since 2002.
