Houston Methodist Ties for First Place on the Nursing Satisfaction Index Houston Methodist is excited to announce that we have reached another milestone, thanks to our nurses and employee community. Last week, MIT Sloan Management Review published a “Nursing Satisfaction Index,” measuring how nurses at 200 of the largest healthcare employers in the US rate their employee experience. Houston Methodist sits at the top spot on the list, tied with Ann Arbor’s Michigan Medicine, having both received an overall index rating of 1.7. Employer scores were displayed as a standard deviation above or below the average for all 200 employers assessed, with hospitals and health systems rated on a five-point scale. The Nursing Satisfaction Index was based on analysis of 150,000 Glassdoor reviews, written by nurses working in healthcare since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic through June 2023. Index authors evaluated reviews to determine whether nurses spoke positively or negatively about topics shaping overall job satisfaction including compensation, workload, culture, senior leadership and organizational support. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking by Vizient. It is an incredible accomplishment. Our hospitals were recognized for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality care, with measures that included safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity. Vizient methodology is also the most accurate balanced scorecard for hospital performance, as it focuses on safety and quality metrics instead of reputation scores. Our rankings speak volumes about the work our employees put in every day to make sure our patients receive excellent care. According to a recent survey from the Pew Research Center, only about half of U.S. workers report being "extremely" or "very satisfied" with their jobs.
