As the COVID-19 crisis evolves, we remain committed to the health and safety of the shopper community. Today, we shared some additional ways we’re continuing to support the entire shopper community, including in-app shopper wellness checks and the extension of our COVID-19 extended pay policies for all shoppers and bonuses for in-store teams. We’re also bringing on an additional 250,000 new shoppers in regions where customer demand is the highest in an effort to get back to 1-hour and same-day delivery service levels. Learn more below:

Today, we’re proud to announce the expansion of Instacart and Costco prescription delivery from Costco pharmacies in Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, New York, Washington and Washington D.C. Instacart has become an essential service for millions of people in the U.S. and Canada who are depending on the platform to safely, reliably and affordably get the groceries and household goods they need. Our order volume was up more than 300% year-over-year last week and our shopper community has grown to more than 350,000 active shoppers, up from 200,000 just two weeks ago. We’re adapting and growing our Care organization to keep up with the demand by significantly increasing our number of Care agents (including partnering with companies whose support agents have been impacted by the economic downturn) and rolling out new product features that make it easier to reach us and resolve or report issues in real-time. Get all the details from Mark Killick, VP of Care, below:
We are so grateful to our Shopper Community and will be posting some of our favorite customer shout outs over the next few weeks! ❤️🛒
More customers than ever before are relying on Instacart to get their groceries. Today we’re announcing two new product features designed to speed up our service and unlock more delivery windows as demand for grocery delivery continues to surge: “Fast & Flexible” matches customer orders with real-time shopper availability. This new feature gives customers the option to have their order delivered by the first available shopper within an estimated delivery range, rather than schedule it for a specific delivery window. “Order Ahead” allows customers to now place orders up to two weeks in advance. As more people are planning ahead to restock their pantry staples and purchase recurring essentials, this new functionality lets customers build their digital cart well in advance of when they need their groceries or goods. Yesterday we announced several new measures to further support all members of the Instacart community in the wake of COVID-19. Shopper and customer safety remains our top priority, and we’ll continue to share additional updates over the coming days and weeks. -We’ve developed and will be distributing hand sanitizer to shoppers. Given the global supply chain shortages for supplies like this, we worked with a third party to manufacture our own hand sanitizer. This was a necessary move to overcome the existing inventory delays in global supply chain scarcity without taking resources away from health care workers. -We’ve also introduced a new customer tip default feature to make it easier for customers to set their own tipping preferences while helping shoppers earn higher, more consistent tips. Click below to learn more about these, and other measures, we have put in place to support the Instacart community.
“The last few weeks have been the busiest in Instacart’s history and our teams are working around the clock to reliably and safely serve all members of our community. Instacart shoppers have stepped up as household heroes for families, grandparents, and people in need coast-to-coast. We expect to see continued customer demand and, as a result, we’re opening up 300,000 more full-service shopper roles across North America. As more people look for immediate, flexible earnings opportunities during this time, we hope that Instacart can be an additional source of income for those looking to earn while also delivering for the communities in which they live.” — Apoorva Mehta, Founder & CEO, Instacart Read more below, and visit shoppers.instacart.com to apply.
Over the past few months, we’ve been testing a new “Leave at My Door Delivery” feature with a group of customers across the U.S. and Canada. Based on the increased demand for this new product feature, we’ve now made it available to all Instacart customers. Learn more about how this new feature works in our news blog, below.
