Say hello👋 to Assil; based in Egypt 📍, Assil is our Gum & Developing Categories Supply Planning head for Mars Middle East & Africa. "When I was pregnant and it was time to go for maternity leave, it was a stressful point in my career because I wanted to spend most of my time with my baby 👶, but at the same time wanted to grow in my career and in my new role. Mars took a leap of faith with me and empowered me to do both! I was able to have a fulfilling maternity leave and go back to find my role waiting for me; I was provided flexibility on all aspects, enabling me to take care of my baby without guilt and stay motivated to deliver strong results in my job. Most women suffer from career setbacks due to motherhood and maternity leave, but not at Mars!" Would you like to join Mars, and discover what life's truly like as a Mars Associate? Meet Beth Constantine, one of our Talent Acquisition Recruiters in Tennesse. Beth recently wrote an article about her experience as a working Mum at Mars: "In my first year as an Associate, I heard Victoria Mars speak to the importance of supporting women in their career growth and development in tandem with motherhood and growing families. About a year later, I found out we were expecting our first child in the midst of developing for my next best role. Before heading out on leave, I interviewed for the role and upon returning from my maternity leave, I was excited to have been promoted to the position." Here at Mars, over the last 18 months some of our Associates have had to transition to online working, which has presented its own unique set of challenges! With that in mind, we asked our Associates, in their own way, to tell us they are working from home, without telling us they're working from home! We asked Tatiana Otbetkina, our Pet Channel Executive in Russia, about how they and their furry companion got on: "When I work from home, my pets are always very happy having me at home with them for the day! They're always keen to take part in my meetings, video conferences, and to try new treats from Pedigree, as well as just lying back and listening to me working." Here at Mars, we’ve listened to our Associates’ experiences and tested new ways to optimize productivity and Associate health and wellbeing. What’s resulted is our flexible, hybrid Future of Work strategy – it reimagines where, when, and how we work to empower our 32,000 office-based Associates, all while preserving what’s best about our culture. Nici Bush, our VP Workplace Transformation, on Future of Work said “Our Future of Work strategy is designed to empower Associates to make more choices about where, when and how to work to be the most productive and effective". At Mars, we're always working to further support those of our Associates who have ventured into the world of parenthood. Last week, we celebrated International Working Parents Day and wanted to take this time to showcase some of our amazing Associates, as they and their little ones play a huge role in what we do! Here at Mars, many of our Associates have had to transition to online working, which has presented its own unique set of challenges! With that in mind, we asked our Associates, in their own way, to tell us they are working from home, without telling us they're working from home! We asked Chris Woods, our Employer Reputation & Recruitment Marketing Manager in the UK, about how he and his furry friend Barney have got on working from home: "Having Barney whilst working from home is great - he keeps me active by demanding walks or playtime between calls, which means I have to get up, stretch and get some fresh air (even if it is just to throw a squeaky ball in the garden for 5 minutes). Barney is also a bit of a celebrity at Mars, and he's quite often asked for in calls - he's definitely more popular than me, which makes meeting new people (and their four-legged friends) a lot easier!" Say "Hello" to Danielle, who joined us back in 2018 as a Marketing and Sales Intern, before joining the team as a full-time Associate, and growing into her new role as Employer Reputation Specialist for North America! We asked Danielle about her experience as a Mars Intern, and what it was that made her want to continue her journey with us: "During the Mars internship program, I was blown away with the amount of female representation in our leadership team. I knew I wanted to work for a company that saw all people as equals regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. Now two years later, I’m excited to see that we have gender equality initiatives and are constantly reviewing our Associate metrics. We have a goal of 50% female to male diversity across our leadership team which makes me feel empowered as a female Associate!” If you want to find out more about life as a Mars Associate, click the link below!
At Mars, Pets are a special part of our world 🐶 So to mark #InternationalHomelessAnimalDay, we wanted to celebrate the dedication of our colleagues at the Pedigree Foundation. We spoke with Debra Fair, Executive Director about the issue: “Since Pedigree Foundation was created in 2008, we've been working to help end pet homelessness by increasing dog adoption rates - awarding more than $9 million through 5,700 shelter and rescue grants. This past year, we gave over $1 million to 167 shelters and rescues across the U.S., helping an estimated 150,000 dogs. Millions of dogs will end up homeless in 2021, and the challenges of the past 18 months have put more strain on shelters than ever. The good news is, there are many ways to help. You can adopt, volunteer, but it's going to take all of us to make sure International Homeless Animals Day becomes a thing of the past."
