Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans across U.S. history and society—from activists and civil rights pioneers, to leaders in industry, politics, science, culture and more. National Interstate and Vanliner are proud to recognize the importance, relevance, and origins of Black History Month.
Since being honored with a proclamation from Village of Richfield Mayor Donald Larsen in 2000, we’ve made an annual tradition of celebrating “National Interstate Day” on Oct. 16th to honor our team’s passion, dedication, and success. We’re observing our special day today with a treat for our employees to commemorate our journey. #myNATLife

“Structured on the company value of Collaboration, I enjoy being a member of the Human Resources team at National Interstate because my experiences in HR have not been siloed, I have had the opportunity to work in all different areas of Human Resources. So often, you hear about HR professionals only experiencing a small facet of HR. We are consistently collaborating with other team members and exposed to countless opportunities.” – Maria A., Senior Human Resources Representative
“The complexity and amount of variable that goes into even what seems to be the simplest concepts in insurance has been a surprise and something I appreciate greatly as a Data Analyst. I am able to have a wide freedom to explore and analyze new and exciting venues in my work on a daily basis and there’s always a new challenge to keep me engaged.” – Jung L., Data Analyst
“As a newer employee to National Interstate and the insurance industry, I was slightly skeptical about where this job would lead me. What’s surprised me the most is the opportunity for advancement within the organization. It didn’t take long to realize this wasn’t just a job, but a career. The opportunities to further your professional/educational career are vast, and I have been lucky enough to latch on with a company that truly cares about my future.” – Kevin A., Claims Processing Tech II
“It’s amazing how much the insurance industry changes, and it’s exciting to be in the forefront! Before I worked here, I thought insurance was boring, but that’s far from the truth. Every day is different – so it’s never boring for me. It’s been motivating to watch our company change and grow. I love being part of our team because we work so well together. We are fast paced, hard working with a bit of fun thrown in! I’m excited to see what the future holds” – Bobbie L. Business Development Coordinator
“Before working in insurance, I never realized how many applications and systems are involved when creating an insurance policy. Many of the forms that I work with when servicing policies require a lot of specific coding. I was also surprised to learn how complex of a process policy rating is and how a small mistake could change the policy rating drastically. I really enjoy working with our QA team because the individuals on the team are very friendly and always ready to provide help.” – Pavel C., Quality Assurance Analyst
