    DreamWorks, NetApp speed animated film production with predictive analytics

    DreamWorks and NetApp began working this summer on predictive analytics tools for artists making animated feature films, reports The Wall Street Journal. The studio has anywhere from seven to 10 films in production at any given time, and a single film can take four years to finish, taking up loads of compute power and cloud data along the way.

    In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, New York City Police raided the Stonewall Inn, an underground, illegal gay bar in New York's Greenwich Village. Tired of regular raids at the establishment and being roughed up by police, patrons of the bar and angry neighbors in the community had had enough and a riot ensued.

    George Kurian knows a bit about transformations. During his two years as chief executive of Sunnyvale-based NetApp, Kurian has shepherded the storage technology company into a new era of emphasis on flash-based storage, the cloud, and software to enhance its traditional disk-drive storage systems. Kurian said the moves were necessary to "use the market transitions that are going on in the industry to our advantage."
