As Novant Health continues to set the highest standards of safety and quality in the communities it serves, the health system announced that it received 10 “A” Hospital Safety Grades, the most in North Carolina, for The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2023 scoring period. This scoring period marks five consecutive years where all eligible Novant Health hospitals have received A or B grades and nearly five years since the launch of the Novant Health Institute for Safety & Quality, which focuses on patient outcomes and safety, clinical excellence and infection prevention. “Our continued recognition from The Leapfrog Group only happens with the work of many dedicated care teams and great clinicians. David Priest, MD, senior vice president, and chief safety and quality officer, said, “This work is more than a letter grade – it’s extremely personal to us and is embedded in our culture. Each day, we have the privilege of caring for people, often during the most vulnerable time in their lives, and the most important thing we can do is ensure our culture. Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center recently completed renovations to mother-baby unit on the sixth and seventh floors of the hospital. This unit, which provides around-the-clock care for newborns and their parents, was the final step in a multiphase construction project specifically designed to enhance all aspects of maternity care. The project also included opening the region’s first obstetrics emergency department, completely renovating the labor and delivery unit, and installing a modern new design throughout the entire women’s and children’s areas. These enhancements are part of the hospital’s campuswide $400 million enhancement plan that launched in 2019. This plan also includes the addition of a brand-new critical care tower set to open in 2024. “There’s no greater feeling than being able to help welcome new life into the world,” said Ann Smith, DNP, director of women’s services at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. “It’s a responsibility that we take seriously and have proudly supported for well over a hundred years in this community. Our goal with this renovation is to not only make the patient experience more enjoyable, but to also provide the very best in advanced care and comprehensive support."
Representatives from Novant Health and Vannoy Construction gathered to celebrate the structural completion of the new critical care tower at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. Once completed, the new four-story, 150,000 square-foot tower and 50,000 square-foot critical care tower will increase medical care at Matthews Medical Center from 157 to 174 beds, meeting the health care needs of the rapidly growing Matthews community. “We are thrilled to celebrate the hard work and continued progress taking place every day for our future critical care tower,” said Jason Bernd, president and chief operating officer, Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. “While the topping out certainly represents a significant construction milestone, it also serves as a symbolic reminder of our long-term goal to improve the health of our community, one patient at a time." This new project will renovate surgical services, heart and vascular, and add inpatient capacity, including a new intensive care unit, which will allow us to add advanced services.”
TowneBank committed $500,000 to Novant Health’s Upward Mobility RN Educational Assistance Program, which supports internal advancement and improves the financial well-being of team members, particularly those living in underserved areas. The $500,000 gift was made to the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation and will specifically go to team members at Novant Health Ballantyne Medical Center who are working toward licensure as a registered nurse. “At a time of ever-increasing nursing shortages, TowneBank's generosity allows us to invest in our most important asset….our people. So many individuals with a desire to continue their education and improve their financial health simply do not have the resources to do so. We thank TowneBank for being our partner in allowing these goals to become a reality,” said Ben Brodersen, president & chief operating officer, Novant Health Ballantyne Medical Center.
