Barry is a 5-year-old greyhound who was rescued after a career in greyhound racing. He is a certified Pet Therapy dog and comes once a week to PIH Health to visit patients, staff, and visitors with his owner and fellow volunteer, Patty Baker. Barry loves playing tug-of-war with other dogs and his favorite activity at PIH Health is helping people forget their worries! #GPTW
#EmployeeSpotlight: PIH Health is spotlighting Johnny, a Physician Assistant at PIH Health Cerritos Medical Office Building. He has worked with PIH Health for three years and spent ten years with Pioneer Medical Group before they joined PIH Health. Johnny’s passion for providing high-quality patient care began at a young age when his mother introduced him to the field of nursing. A nurse herself, she showed him how healthcare can impact others. Johnny appreciates PIH Health’s efforts in providing essential resources that help get patients what they need in a timely manner. One of his favorite parts of his job is seeing his regular patients. He feels privileged to have formed lasting connections with them and enjoys when they share life updates with him. Johnny is proud to be a member of a team that truly cares. “I want to be a nurse so I can help people,” Yosith recalls telling her mother as she was a child growing up in El Salvador. Soon after that declaration, she began pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse—until another dream arose. “While I was studying in El Salvador I had the opportunity to come to the United States, so I packed my bags and hopped on a plane,” she says. When Yosith arrived five years ago, she still felt called to continue her studies in the healthcare industry. She decided to become a Certified Nurse Assistant and live out her dream of helping others. Today, Yosith works as a CNA in the PIH Health Downey Hospital medical-telemetry unit. She has been a part of our organization since August 2017. Each day, Yosith assists our patients by providing medical necessities to make them comfortable. “It’s my job to build a strong relationship with patients and make them feel at ease during their stays,” she says. “Whether I am making decisions autonomously or working as a team, I do everything with my patients in mind,” she adds.
