President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the first National Respiratory Therapy Week in 1982. This year, Respiratory Care Week will be observed October 22 to 28 to celebrate the profession of respiratory therapy and raise awareness about lung health. PIH Health would like to take this opportunity to thank each one of our hard-working staff in respiratory care.
We honor all of our professional chaplains, clergy and counselors at PIH Health. Our spiritual caregivers do the incredible work of offering support and comfort that respects the cultural values and traditions of all our patients, their families and the staff. The care they provide is healing and incredibly meaningful. These spiritual leaders are there to provide a supportive presence at any time during your hospitalization or that of a loved one, and we are grateful to celebrate their contributions and thank them for all they do.
In honor of #NationalMedicalAssistantsWeek, meet Siria. Siria has worked for PIH Health for more than 12 years and is currently a medical assistant in the family medicine department at PIH Health Lambert medical office building. Growing up with close family members who often were in and out of the hospital because of many health issues inspired Siria to work in the healthcare industry after she experienced how great medical care can be. Siria prides herself on providing excellent patient care by always listening to patients. “While I may not always be able to help them,” she says, “I try my best to listen so that I can point them in the right direction regarding who can best assist them with their needs.” Thank you to Siria and all the PIH Health medical assistants for continuing to put #PatientsFirst. Your hard work and dedication are always appreciated.
Congratulations to Allison, a registered nurse from 2 Tower at PIH Health Whittier Hospital for winning the DAISY Award! Allison is recognized for her quick thinking while assisting a distressed patient. The patient was under Allison’s care a few days before receiving heart surgery. “The level of care and compassion that Allison showed my mom was top-notch. She made us feel very at ease,” shared the patient’s daughter. However, a few days after the surgery, unexpected complications arose during the patient’s mealtime. She became disoriented, sweaty, and extremely hot to touch, eventually leading to a loss of consciousness. Unable to reach the call button, the patient's daughter urgently shouted into the hallway for help. Although Allison was not the patient’s nurse that day, she immediately ran into the room and got to work. “A sense of relief rushed through me the moment I saw Allison there. I knew that she would do everything she could to help. I will forever be grateful for her.” Thank you, Allison, for going above and beyond to put Patients First.

#EmployeeSpotlight: In celebration of Physician Assistant Week, we're shining the spotlight on Jessica, a dedicated physician assistant (PA) at PIH Health Whittwood Medical Office Building. Jessica feels privileged to provide quality care to those in her neighboring community with a team that supports each other. Jessica’s journey into healthcare was inspired by her passion for helping others. "I strive to ensure our patients leave our office feeling confident in their treatment plans and supported on their health care journeys," she explains. For Jessica, caring for others is both fulfilling and deeply personal. "Being a PA has taught me patience and understanding, not only with my patients, but also with myself," she reflects. At PIH Health, she values being part of a compassionate and caring team. Jessica is always extending a helping hand and consistently ensures everyone's well-being before leaving for the day. In addition to her medical responsibilities, Jessica brings joy and positivity, brightening the days of her colleagues and patients with spontaneous dances and laughter. Outside of work, Jessica enjoys gardening, Netflix marathons (she is currently watching Gilmore Girls) and baking. PIH Health thanks Jessica for being an amazing PA! #PIHHealth #PhysicianAssistantWeek
