Veterans Day was first established as "Armistice Day" in 1938 to commemorate the end of World War I. In 1954, legislation changed the name of the annual observance to Veterans Day, observed every November 11 to honor veterans and their families. On September 10, 2001, Thomas Newton, Marketing Manager, D&Y, visited a military recruitment office. After deciding service may not be for him, he left - only to wake up to the news of the next day. Knowing this was his call to serve, he joined the Marine Corps. Leading up to Veterans Day, we're sharing stories of service, sacrifice and courage.
