That’s why we continue to invest in blazing new pathways to STEM education and careers, so our future leaders have the resources they need to reach their full potential. One of the ways we channel this focus is by supporting nonprofits and other organizations that share this passion. In recognition of some of these efforts, we were recently named Corporate Partner of the Year by The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD). The award honors organizational partners of the nonprofit who have gone above and beyond to support their mission of promoting and celebrating excellence, innovation, cooperation, professional growth and fellowship in the engineering, scientific and allied professions. Since 2020 alone, our company has donated over $225,000 to help support the organization carry out its strategic goals – further carrying our mission to champion the next generation of STEM leaders.

Two teams from our company’s Detroit-based headquarters recently set our #DoGreatThings value in motion by volunteering with Forgotten Harvest, a nonprofit dedicated to relieving hunger and preventing nutritious food waste in the city and across the metro area. According to the latest data from the Detroit Food Policy Council, 69% of Detroit households are food insecure, a population that’s well above the national rate of 11% of households. To help address the hunger epidemic, Forgotten Harvest delivers 138,000 pounds of food to local charities each day, providing families in need with free, fresh and delicious food.
At Urban Science, our collective commitment to our #InventTheFuture value guides our approach to driving innovation into every corner of the automotive industry – and progress in the communities where our team members live and work. We take great pride in our ability to help those who need us most, and in the work our global team members do to make a difference in their communities. This past month, our company’s Nashville office exemplified our #InventTheFuture value through partnering with Book’em for an organized book drive. Book’em’s mission is to create a more literate Nashville and ignite children’s passion for reading through book ownership. After book collections ended, our Nashville-based volunteers came together on Dec. 7 to help Book’em prepare the books for donations with tasks such as sorting, cleaning, stamping and shelving.
At Urban Science, we take pride in our ability to drive progress into every corner of the automotive industry – and in the communities where our global team members live and work. We also take pride in supporting the tremendous efforts of other organizations, particularly nonprofits, that share in our commitment to creating stronger communities. That’s why we launched our annual Community Giving grant program – which engages our global team members to nominate a nonprofit of their choice to receive a microgrant up to $1,000 awarded in their honor – many years ago.
Earlier this year, Urban Scientists based in our Mexico City office participated in Gato Fest 2023, an event organized by Mexico City’s El Gato Vago shelter to raise awareness of the thousands of abandoned and feral cats and kittens in the country, and to collect cat food, as well as blankets, medicine and sand, to distribute to cat shelters in Mexico City and across Mexico.
