Each summer, our company proudly welcomes interns from across the world as they further their education – and develop their professional skills – in real-world business scenarios that continue to drive our clients and company, and the automotive industry, forward. And while our 2023 summer internship program recently wrapped up, the dedication and contributions of the interns who chose to spend their summer with us are simply unforgettable.
At Urban Science, our vision is a world in which innovation is powered by science and inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit to invent a better future. And we know our ability to achieve this vision begins and ends with continuing to give our next generation of leaders the knowledge, skills and support they need to thrive in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields that are often harder to find – and navigate – across underrepresented communities. That’s why we continue to invest in leveling the playing field, and in building a more diverse talent pipeline by creating new pathways to STEM careers to help our future leaders – and our communities – reach their full potential.
At Urban Science, we recognize -- and celebrate -- our team members' contributions within our organization and in our communities around the globe. In this spirit, we're proud to report last month, Lisa Walden, senior implementation engineer, was awarded the highest level of the Rescue Service Medal of Honor for completing 1,000 hours of volunteer paramedic work with The Red Cross in Wiesbaden, Germany. Way to go, Lisa! Read the full story below. 👏 🚑
This fall, Long Beach-based Urban Scientists doubled down on their commitment to #community by coming together to assemble activity kits with Together We Rise - Foster Love, a nonprofit that works to improve the lives of children in foster care. This team also raised a total of $5,400 to benefit foster children through this wonderful organization!
In late October, at a ceremony attended by Wayne State University military and #veteran students alongside university leadership and faculty – and members of the local business and government communities – WSU unveiled the Colonel Gregory Gadson Office of Military and Veterans Academic Excellence (OMVAE), a dedication that was made possible by a $1 million gift from Urban Science Founder and President Jim Anderson and his wife, Patti. Our #NJ team members came together to make a positive impact on their neighbors in need by volunteering with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. During this day of service, the team helped sort and package goods in the nonprofit’s warehouse so the goods could later be shipped to local food banks and pantries around the area, and ultimately picked up by the people and families who need them most. Many thanks to everyone who helped support this great cause! Click below for the full story. #community #food #nonprofit #hungerrelief #automotive
From intern to mentor and STEM diversity advocate: an Urban Scientist’s formula for success
One of the ways we (very proudly) make a positive impact on our global communities is through #STEM enrichment programs that create new pathways to engineering careers for underrepresented talent. Last month, our company’s UK-Reading office had the pleasure of hosting 27 students from an area all-girls school for a STEM-focused business insights day that immersed these students, our future leaders, in our approach to automotive business science. On behalf of Urban Scientists working in Michigan and around the globe, we’re humbled and grateful to do our part to help metro Detroit girls blaze new trails in STEM through our long-term partnership with The Engineering Society of Detroit, and to continue to drive our city, state and nation forward. We congratulate all the evening’s award winners on their achievements and look forward to gathering again next year!
Our team had the pleasure of sharing information about technology careers with middle school and high school students at today’s Career Vision Day at Central High School in #Detroit. It was our pleasure meet our leaders of tomorrow, and to introduce them to new pathways in #STEM and #tech fields. Thanks, Life Remodeled, for the opportunity to participate!
