I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Muscular Dystrophy Association (Las Vegas, NV) in Feb 2010
Interview
First they do phone interviews to narrow down candidates. They ask pretty normal questions like experience, salary expectations, job expectations...etc. Yes they listen to the answers but they are also listening to your attitude and enthusiasm. Experience/qualities necessary for the Executive Director job are management experience, good time management, working with a budget (or numbers in general), willingness to work hard and commitment to the cause (fighting Muscular Dystrophy). After the phone interview they will schedule an in-person interview. Note: If you live out of state you will have to travel at your own expense and nothing is guaranteed. The in-person interview usually consists of the Regional Director and sometimes a Regional Coordinator. You will be asked to bring a presentation (usually powerpoint and varies on subject, but it's usually something like "why are you the best candidate") Then they will ask you a series of questions (usually 4 main ones). This interview is considered a "behavior interview." You need to site SPECIFIC examples for all questions. It is ok to take your time and think during the interview. They realize that it takes a little time to think of details. Remember to stay on subject and go into detail on exact circumstances and how you did it. They will ask probing questions if they want more information. After that you will usually hear if you have the job either way. Many don't get past the phone interview, so if you land a in-person interview you have a good shot.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Muscular Dystrophy Association (Remote, OR) in Aug 2017
Interview
The first portion of the interview process was a Phone Interview w Screener. It was very basic. Just normal interview questions and not really "job specific." She told me after that I would hear back in a week with the next steps if once HR reviewed the answers to my questions. She also asked my salary expectations at the end which I was taken aback by. The next part was a phone interview with the Regional Development Director
