What is paid time off like at Brookdale Senior Living?

Pros

Great benefits and PTO. Brookdale offers great healthcare benefits compared to other companies and generous PTO. When not under staffed the work is enjoyable.

Cons

Annual merit increases don't reflect performance reviews and are inadequate to inflation and that’s not even including all the skills the employee gained throughout the year. I made more the first day on the job than I did on my last day when you include the cost of inflation. Promotion/salary is largely based on timing and who you know rather than based on performance. Management doesn’t provide career development and they put little investment into their employees. In addition, the work environment isn’t that great. Management’s philosophy seems to be that they would rather replace employees with cheaper workers rather than promote or give raises to loyal employees. As a result, loyalty is not rewarded. Middle management fine, they just had their hands tied because the leaders at the top of the organization was micro-managing and never addressed the concerns when employees provided feedback. In addition, Brookdale is very controlling and are very dogmatic to the employee handbook at the expense of mental health and safety of their employees. For example, most corporate employees can work for home and did work for home for a year and a half, but the company made employees come to work when there were bad snow storms and the road conditions were terrible. All of the above reasons led to a high turnover which in turn led to employees being over worked.

Does Brookdale Senior Living offer dental insurance?

Pros

Brookdale has some good policies that are easy to maintain and a great vision for the people they are trying to serve. As for benefits they have a great dental and vision plan....and that’s about it. My building environment was amazing, loved who I worked with, still maintain close relationships.

Cons

Equal opportunity pay is not existent, it’s a guessing game as to what you should make to fit the buildings budget. (Do your research and request that you deserve l!!) Every building within these company operates differently. (This is a con because it is one company with the same policies but some people do what is right and some don’t do anything as they should) Regional favoritism amongst communities is evident, horrible communication amongst their own time which then trickles down to poor communication to communities, say they will come help or access the building and never show up. There is no true opportunity for growth through the years they got rid of many positions including regional. If you are struggling they tear you down verses trying to help build you. From experience can’t say where it stems from they are more concerned with the numbers verses the actuality of what is really going on with the residents. Universal worker means work your butt off in ever department no matter because always short staffed, in almost every building. Training...hahaha I heard they are working on that but when I left that was a joke!! Asked for more training and never received a thing. I was new in my role and they sent me to a building that they praised over and over again how ever they failed the companies audit tremendously and the person training was terrified of asking the staff to help with the specific department because of kick backs and argument, so staff didn’t do what they where suppose to do. (Part of that has a lot to do with dysfunctional teamwork, some departments felt like their titles or roles where more important then others) .

Advice to Management

I would give some but I wouldn’t matter, that is a joke!! They have a hotline for all employees to call however it just goes right back to the ED and then management can pinpoint based on situation on who the caller can be?!?!? This should operate like a well oiled machine but instead one man for themselves

As for benefits they have a great dental and vision plan....and that’s about it.
