Toxic environment undermines company values and employee care
Pros
I worked at in regulatory/medical writing, and my experience was deeply disappointing despite the company constantly promoting values like empathy, respect, and people-first culture. In reality, the environment felt highly political and fear-driven. Management often seemed more focused on protecting budgets and their own positions than supporting employees. There was a constant disconnect between what leadership preached and what actually happened in day-to-day work. One of the biggest problems was the culture of insecurity. Managers appeared willing to push employees out or create pressure situations simply to justify restructuring or cost-cutting decisions. Employees were treated as replaceable resources rather than skilled professionals. Loyalty and hard work did not guarantee respect. The workload and expectations were often unrealistic, while recognition and support were minimal. Communication from leadership lacked transparency, and favoritism played a major role in opportunities and growth. Speaking honestly about issues felt risky because the culture discouraged open criticism. I also experienced the difficult transition from quality review into mainstream regulatory writing, and while I managed to succeed in that shift, I saw many capable people struggle without proper guidance or support from leadership. The company branding around empathy and employee care looks good externally, but many teams operate in a way that feels completely opposite internally.
Cons
Toxic management culture Poor people leadership Fear-based environment Budget-driven decisions impacting employees Lack of transparency and psychological safety Corporate values not reflected in practice
