What are perks and other benefits like at MetLife?

      MetLife reviews

Horrible, discriminatory company to work for, especially as a recent college grad or person of color

      Client service consultant
      Former employee
      Aurora, IL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - none, please do not work here if you value your work-life balance and have a desire to enjoy your days - you will learn to hide that you’ve been crying in the bathroom quickly

      Cons

      - Different role from what was described in interview process and on job descriptions - Most toxic work environment where management team does not check in on employees - Total lack of diversity within the Aurora office, only saw two Asian people and 5 Black people in the entire building during my time at the company - often heard racist, ageist, and ableist comments that were never addressed or handled - Lack of resources and forced to rely on outdated systems which the majority of people do not know how to use and the main thing we were told in training was "learn which people you can use" - The number of accounts is too high per person and we are even told to lie to clients about how many we actually have - Underpaid for the amount of work and expectations and lack of benefits in comparison to other companies, also wide pay gap - majority of the training was not relevant to the actual job

      Pros

The benefits and the work from home were the best parts of working for MetLife.

      Cons

MetLife does not care about their employees. I gave them 5 good, hard working years of my life, only to be terminated because of not meeting one metric out of 7 metrics for 11 months. Guess MetLife thinks it all comes down the numbers and not the people themselves. Good luck finding someone as qualified and trained as I was, because you'll spend another 5 years teaching someone else everything I knew!

      New frontier of fear

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The benefits are good including pension plan, culture is good, lots of nice people.

      Cons

Antiquated systems (still using dos based) and changes are not thought through or planned or communicated well. This new frontier has been nothing but negative impact to employees with layoffs and unnecessary org changes. Letting go of some really awesome talent for no reason. Every time they create a new system it’s basically just a Band-Aid for the old one and then we have to use both systems instead of just one. The CSC job is just a catch all for anything that any other department doesn’t want to do. The pay is low compared to other carriers and there are people that have been there for many years earning less than new hires out of college. many people are overworked and underpaid. Lack of consistency with return to office if the idea is collaboration then why don’t all departments have a hybrid schedule that are close to the office? Make it make sense.

      Great company overall

      Business Outlook

      Pros

On the job training provided, benefits include pension, free onsite parking, hybrid environment with two days required in office

      Cons

There is no Director in the Bellevue office. It can be difficult to develop relationships with people on your team since they are scattered across the country and you may not meet in person.

      Great benefits

      Pros

MetLife operates with the agility of a small company with the backing of a global company. They have some great benefits and an inclusive culture. Location of the Sydney office is top notch.

      Cons

At times some business units can be siloed however this has been improving lately.

      Pros

This company has great benefits and management was very fair. I only left the company because I had to relocate.

      Cons

The same con as most other places. The employees that had been there for 20+ years were slow to want to adapt new processes bit that is most workplaces. No other cons.

      Pros

Working with great and talented people. Life balance is a plus and the benefits are great

      Cons

Upper Management can be a bit pushy and tends to worry about their bonuses rather then developing talent
