      Does Petco offer employee discounts?

      Petco reviews

      Used to be better

      General manager
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

-Can be a great place to work if your manager is fair and willing to build a positive work environment -Having animals come in to see you everyday is a major plus -Employee discount is nice, but they no longer stack discounts with employee discount

      Cons

-Can be traumatizing seeing shipments of dead animals come in -Field leadership and corporate leadership would rather sit behind a desk and have conference calls than actually make strategies to help stores, mentor partners, -Discrimination against pregnant and female employees -Not willing to fairly compensate based on experience or tenure with the company -Human resources relies on what district managers say, and do not properly investigate district managers and up when complaints are made -Modest annual ranges, 3% at most -Extreme favoritism with district managers trickles down into stores

      Growing Pains

      Sr. account manager
      Former employee
      San Diego, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Hybrid Work Environment: The flexible hybrid work setup allows for a good balance between office and remote work. Unlimited PTO: The unlimited PTO policy is convenient and supports work-life balance. Pet-Friendly Office: Having a pet-friendly office makes the work environment enjoyable and aligns with Petco's mission. Employee Discount: The employee discount on products is a nice perk, especially for pet owners.

      Cons

Chaotic Work Environment: The work environment can be quite chaotic, with frequent changes and lack of clear direction. Unstable Company: There is a sense of instability within the company, making it hard to feel secure in your role. Limited Growth Opportunities: There are very few opportunities for career advancement, and internal partners often feel overlooked for promotions. Promotion Issues: Internal employees are frequently passed up or ignored for promotions in favor of external hires. Unfair Compensation: Compensation practices seem to favor new hires over long-standing employees, leading to dissatisfaction among existing staff. Poor Work-Life Balance: The work-life balance can be poor, with expectations to be available beyond typical working hours. Stressful Management: Poor management contributes to high stress levels, with a pervasive 'always on fire' attitude that makes the work environment extremely demanding.

      Pros

*Good employee discount on store products *Educating people about animal care is enjoyable and something most pet owners need *Store leadership was flexible and accommodating *Pay is not the worse for a retail position

      Cons

*Company leadership alienates customers and employees with overbearing customer loyalty program *Instability of upper levels ripples down to store level to create unreliable scheduling and inventory

      Pros

      - might just be my department but there's not any pros...

      Cons

      - Small layoff takes place every few months. I have only been here for 7 months but there were already two round of layoffs. About 2 - 3 roles eliminated from each team. - Leadership team wants things to happen overnight but the reality is that things are moving very slowly because the lack of communications and poor management in different teams. - Onboarding for new hires is so bad that it's like non-existence. That's the reason why new employees take longer to be familiar with the business and how their team operates. This is one of the reasons to cause second bullets. - There is no personal or career development at all. Petco does not have any programs to help employees enhance their skillsets. - might depend on the team leader, but for mine, there is no team building at all, there's only one 30 min meeting each week to talk about workload. Most of my coworkers work remotely, we barely talk to each other. When it comes to collaborative projects, it becomes a problem. Also another factor contribute to the second bullet. - benefits. All standard, nothing special. Maybe employee discount if you have pets. You merit and bonus depend on finance situation and everyone knows how Petco's finance situation is. Recently Petco just annouced to employees that there's no 6 month wait period to 401k matching. And their matching% is really low. The company thinks this is big news but the reality is that most companies don't have that waiting period and the matching% is a bit higher. No one really was excited about this. When you apply for corporate jobs at Petco, please do a thorough research of the company and the team you are about to get into.
