I saw the position on LinkedIn and applied via their amazon.jobs website. I received an email from the recruiter in about two weeks asking me to complete an online Cultural Assessment, which is aligned to Amazon’s company culture and Leadership Principles.
The assessment was like a role-playing game that takes place in an office environment. You review and respond to emails, select the appropriate employees to join your meetings based on their position, and choose the best responses to questions your peers and direct reports ask you.
After passing the Assessment I had a group phone interview with two peers I would be working with daily. I made sure to answer using STAR method. It was a little awkward at first because I wasn't sure when exactly to start using it.
After my group phone interview, I met with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was conducting the interview while driving in a car, so it felt very rushed. I also got the sense that this was supposed to be more casual, but continued to use the STAR method in my answers since that was what I was instructed to do by the recruiters.
Overall, it's a lot of work for the interview process. I spent a lot of time studying their principles and coming up with answers using the STAR method that I thought would fit and/or be asked.
I wouldn't say it was difficult, but it was very time-consuming, so I was a little bummed I just got an automated message letting me know they have decided to pursue other candidates and were unable to offer any feedback.
