I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at American Airlines (Fort Worth, TX) in Jul 2013
Interview
I had a great experience interviewing for American!
Below is a detailed account of what happened during my in person interview, prior to attending the interview in Dallas I did:
1. Online Application
2. Skype / Video Interview (automated with 6 questions)
3. Additional Questionare
4. Invited to Dallas for Interview.
At the Interview in Dallas...
- Arrived and went to a room with about 35 other applicants.
- Started with group activity (separated into groups of 4 or 5 people)
- [Drew a big circle on a paper, inside the circle 3 things all group members have in
common. One line out of the circle for each group member stating something that is
unique to them.]
- [One persone was elected as the group representative, they presented the circle
drawing to the rest of the room. Each group member presented one of the unique traits
that was not their own, then the rest of the room had to guess what trait belonged to who.]
- 5 Minute break.
- Went back into the room & were called in new groups of 5 to begin the group interview.
- 2 interviewers for each 5 applicants.
- 4 questions in total were asked.
[1. Tell us a bit about you, and what attribute you have that will benefit AA?]]
[2. Tell us of a recent time when you had to assume responsibility at work.]
[3 Tell us one thing you learnt about another group member. Test your listening!]
[4. Tell us of one instance where you helped someone embrace change]
- Returned to the main room for a 30 minute presentation on American Airlines and why it
is a great place to work.
- American Airlines personnel came into the room and called selected people one by one.
- If called you were taken to another room to get...
[1. Fingerprinted]
[2. Height test, to make sure you could reach an item in the overhead bins].
[3. Fill out a form]
[4. 1-on-1 interview]
- At the 1-on-1 interview, it really felt more casual that formal interview questions.
- Asked to tell a bit about yourself and why you wanted the job, and the questions from
there sort of depend of what your answers were. Only lasted about 5 minutes!
- Finished!
- They will let you know in no more than 2 weeks whether or not you are invited to training.
Sometimes a response comes as quick as 2 days! They will let you know either way.
Walk into the situation with a positive attitude and as relaxed as possible. Remember, they want you to get this just as much as you do! Don't forget to breathe, smile, be friendly but not overbearing, and personable. Try not to fidget or show external signs of nervousness - you'll do great! :D
