I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at American Airlines (Dallas, TX) in Oct 2013
Interview
The entire American Airlines Flight Attendant Recruitment Process took approximately (8) weeks. Before you apply make sure you have a valid US passport. They will not let you go any further without already having a passport. STEP 1: Received an email with a link inviting me to a VIDEO interview, dress as if you were going to a real interview. They ask about 4-6 questions regarding your personal experiences with customer service and customer interactions in your previous-held positions. STEP 2: Received an email congratulating me that I had passed and the next step was to log on to their website and complete/update my online application and consent for them to do a criminal/background check. STEP 3: Approximately one week later, I received a call from a recruiter to schedule my "F2F" (face-to-face interview). Prepare for a long day. They will fly you in for the interview and fly you out the same day. If you can afford it get a hotel room and relax. STEP 4: The day of the interview make sure you are polished and have a clean, professional look and attitude. There are about 35-40 candidates who also was flown in and you all will go through the exact process... be sure to smile, talk to everyone, ask where they're from and if you can exchange phone numbers/email. (THE RECRUITERS ARE WATCHING TO SEE HOW YOU MINGLE WITHIN THE GROUP). STEP 5: They will then escort the group to a large conference room and they ask for your passport to make a copy. They'll have sodas, coffee, water, snacks available. This is a good time to take a bathroom break as well. STEP 6: Next, you're divided up into smaller groups (usually about 6-7 people) and taken into another room for PANEL INTERVIEWS. There are usually two people who will ask you a series of 4-6 questions like: Why do you want to work for AA? Tell us about your previous employment history? Make sure you do your homework on AA and use something like - "you're a leader in the airline industry and your recent merger with US Airways makes you the largest airline in the world and it would be an honor to work for you." STEP 7: All of the candidates meet back in the main conference area for a group activity. (THE RECRUITERS AGAIN ARE WATCHING TO SEE HOW YOU MINGLE WITHIN THE GROUP and HOW YOU PARTICIPATE and GET ALONG WITH OTHERS). You'll write out on a piece of paper your favorite hobbies or what you enjoy doing in your spare time and others in the group try to match you with your hobby. STEP 8: You watch a short video on AA and they tell you the pay scale which is $20.85/hour & you will work between 75-85 hours per month. STEP 9: They call your name and ask to meet you outside in the hallway. If you're selected you go for FBI fingerprinting immediately. If they give you your flight number and flight time to return home that means you "probably" weren't selected. They will always tell you to check your email. You must still remain professional and smile. STEP 10: You'll receive an email informing you of their final decision. GOOD LUCK!
