I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Bain & Company (Chicago, IL) in Sep 2009
Interview
I applied on my school's career center website. They had a pre-night at a local restaurant with the 36 kids they were interviewing where you got to meet the interviewers and talk with them about the company. It was a nice way to get to know them a little bit before sitting down to talk with them, but it was a little awkward. The next day at the interview, I went through two case interviews with two different interviewers. I am not a business major and they claimed that wouldn't matter, but then they asked me questions using business terms without explaining what they meant. The case interviews were not terribly math-intensive except for having to take percentages of billions of dollars...design a general plan for the business in question, etc. There were no personal questions whatsoever even though there were supposed to be. I think this hurt me a lot in the end because I don't have much business experience, but for anyone who does it wouldn't have been hard. They were very nice overall, but if you're not a business major be sure you have business fundamentals down.

2 rounds of 3 interviews.
The first round includes a fit interview.
All interviews feel very relaxed, but they still expect you to move through the case fast and in a structured way.
