The process took 1 day. I interviewed at CIBC (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2010
Interview
It was pretty formal, but the interviewer asked very predictable questions that weren't too difficult about the markets. It was clear that they had a lot of applicants, and I found the interview to be a bit rushed - I clearly was confined to a 25-minute slot at 10AM, so I had to really spout out my information. The interviewer even had to stop me at sveral points so we could continue with other questions.
I had an initial phone interview with HR. It was very standard. Questions included your interest in the sector, a recent deal you have followed that is relevant, and any recent global events that were relevant etc.
I applied online. I interviewed at CIBC in Aug 2024
Interview
The first round consists of 30 mins of behavioral questions, questions about how comfortable you are with Python and MS Excel, and what experiences you've had collaborating with teams etc. After that there was a PowerPoint presentation which you had 48 hours to submit, and a 1 hour Excel test - which was a little difficult, so I'd suggest brushing up on Excel skills because there isn't much time to look up different formulas
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why do you want to enter the finance industry when you have a technical background
A mix of technical and behavioural questions. Behavioural questions focus on describing your previous notable achievements and how it makes you a suitable candidate. Most of the technical questions are about your knowledge of finance/accounting.
