      Pharmacy Technician Interview

      Aug 6, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CVS Health

      Interview

I was looking for work straight out of college. Not much experience but I was open to any kind of steady work. I went around to 15 plus pharmacies with my resume and filled out applications at CVS, Wal-Mart, Rite-Aid and Walgreens. The first CVS I want to is where I got hired actually. Most places said they weren't hiring or gave my ambiguous answers as to what their openings were. Almost all of the places have yet to even get back to me which is more disconcerting. I got a call back from CVS about a month after I applied as they were transitioning from pharmacist to pharmacist. The new pharmacist was actively looking to hire and had me fill out an online application first and then got back to me to have a 1-on-1 interview. The interview was with the pharmacist and the store manager, although the manager was just there to watch and chimed in with a question or two, nothing too stressful. Fairly straightforward interview and it took about 20 minutes. I was one of probably 5-6 applicants for the pharmacy technician position so I did put my best foot forward. Questions weren't anything too "out there" and basic but the pharmacist encouraged me to respond as thoroughly as possible: Tell me about yourself? (took information from my resume/C.V. and put a face to the name and credentials) What is your experience? (if any) Why do you want to work as a pharmacy technician? Why do you want to work for CVS Pharmacy? What do you think we do in the pharmacy? How do you think we complete our jobs? How are your customer service and "people skills"? (VERY important to have and to expand as I have come to learn from working) What is your availability? (try to be as flexible about this as the hours are pre-determined but on a week by week basis when you first start out and then may become more permanent) How do you deal with work in conjunction with unplanned circumstances that may/may not be out of your control? (weather, ill-health, random emergencies -> just want to see that you know how to be responsible) Where do you see yourself in five years?

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

There is an local "epidemic" and there is a huge line of potentially sick and impatient customers that are wanting a treatment from the pharmacy. This "epidemic" stems from inclement weather or something and the pharmacy is understaffed because of this. How do you deal with it?

      Question 2

The pharmacy closes at 10pm. A mother and her child come in around 9:45pm wanting to pick up a prescription that is made out for the child. The medicine is to help treat a very serious ailment (I think she said it was a cancer of some sort) and the medicine isn't covered by insurance or deductible and the medicine NEEDS to be taken by the child before the end of the day. The mother however cannot (or refuses) to pay because of the steep price and asks you what you can do for her in terms of the medication or finding a more reasonable treatment

      Interview

For my interview it was a phone interview only. The manager asked very simple questions. Their main concern was if I could do basic math and even asked me a couple questions on the spot.

Quick few questions asked over by the water bottle section in the CVS, got the job in one 15 min interview, questions were behavioral and about availability. They give preference to students in pharmacy school.
