I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One (Toronto, ON) in Oct 2015
Interview
First round interviews involve two 1-on-1 interviews; one behavioral and one case-based. The interviewers were friendly. The case-based interview mostly requires computational skills (writing down a messy equation and solving for a variable). You need to get the right numerical answer for those questions. There is some more flexibility in answering the qualitative questions in the case interview. The topic of the case was not related to banking or financial services.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
In the behavioral part of the interview, there are only 2 questions. You are expected to answer both questions in heavy detail; expect follow-up questions. Use the STAR method.
1) Describe a time you worked in a team.
2) Describe a time you managed a project.
In the case part of the interview, you are asked to answer qualitative and numerical questions (calculate the monthly profit, given the data). You can use a calculator.
Three rounds of interviews, two of them are case based to assess technical knowledge (first case is relatively easy, calculation needed), one is mainly behavioural questions with the team leader
1st round was 45 mins. Simple case (profitability and basic business acumen) plus a bit of behavioural
2nd round was in-person; networking dinner the night before, and then two back to back interviews (an hour long case and a 30 min behavioural)
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
For the case it was breakeven calculations and basic business questions (e.g. what are the risks and mitigations associated with this venture...)
Do case study questions. If you got an interview invitation, you will receive case studies examples, and they will ask similar questions during interview. After this, will have about 15 minutes behavioral questions. Why capital one? Introduce yourself...
