Bait and switch. Applied on ZipRecruiter for an Outside Sales Representative (1099) role. Recruiter or HR person reached out to screen me and tell me more about the role. Afterwards was told I'm a good fit and my info would be pushed along for an interview. Never heard back so I reached back out after a week and she set up an interview for the next day. Went to interview and was told to fill out a paper application as if I hadn't applied online, was left waiting for some time, then finally taken to a conference room for an interview on an "Event and Marketing" (canvassing) role. I let them know I was here for the outside sales role and I was told that the recruiter messed up, she's a new hire, the role isn't available, etc. I figured I'm already here why not hear them out. Turned out to be a minimum wage W2 canvassing role with commission on leads converted into appointments. The interviewer didn't seem to know the difference between a W2 role and 1099 role. When I asked if it was 1099 I was told it was. The following day I attended what I was told would be a "paid training session" for me to determine if I wanted to take the role. I asked the trainer/manager for more clarity on if the role was W2 or 1099, and if he knew anything about the sales role I initially applied for and was here for. He told me the role is W2 and that he doesn't know anything about the sales role and that the person that handles the job postings isn't in. Now I don't know about you all, but this all sure sounds like a bait and switch (desperation?). He proceeds to tell me more about the role and the products and services, schedule, pay, etc. Left me with a binder to take home and sent me the DocuSign just in case I wanted the job. Was never paid like I was told I would be, regardless of if I took the job or not. Please stay away from this company. This is all a pretty crummy way to get people in the door for a canvassing role. Just be honest next time, or at least have more knowledgeable and competent people handling the hiring process.
