I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cardinal Financial Company (Charlotte, NC) in Jul 2023
I had an introductory phone call where I discussed my past work history, experience, and college education. I also learned about the company and the software product being developed. They decided not to move forward with me solely on the basis that I held a Bachelor of Arts and not Science. They completely disregarded the fact that I had 10 years of relevant professional software engineering experience. I was able to describe my practical experience in great detail with regards to how I design microservices architectures and provide code reviews and mentorship to junior level peers.
- Tell me about your experience with microservices Tell me about your experience with mentorship and code reviews

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Cardinal Financial Company in Jun 2023
1. Responded to a mass message disguised as a personalized message from a member of talent acquisition on LinkedIn. 2. Set up a phone screen with talent acquisition. 3. Phone screen was pleasant; talent acquisition sends me a take-home project to complete. 4. Take-home project was tedious, but super easy. I took about 1.5 weeks to return the take-home because I have a job + life. 5. 2 days after submitting the take-home project I receive a generic, 1 sentence rejection from talent acquisition. I'm guessing since the take-home project is so ridiculously easy that it functions as more of a filtering process to see who's motivated to work for them - then they just take the ppl with the most impressive work/school history as usual. Not a complete waste of time because they pay you, but don't expect feedback - which is far more valuable.

Great experience. Manager was incredibly nice and helpful. Super personable person and asked great questions. Does not make you feel uncomfortable or pressured. I felt very relaxed and happy to answer the questions.

It was straight forward, there were no surprises. Typical underwriting questions. It was a phone interview, not a video or zoom interview. It was very professional and quite refreshing. Lasted maybe 15 minutes.
- Do you have hard wired internet?

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Cardinal Financial Company
1.) Preliminary call with recruiter. Recruiter was late to interview, but did email me very shortly to let me know of the later time. Great communication. 2.) Call with Hiring Manager 3.) Second call with recruiter and offered job at that time
- Please tell me about yourself.

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Cardinal Financial Company
Casual conversation with team managers and VP of the department. Not too bad, they just want to get to know you and see if you'd be a decent fit to the team.
- What is your biggest strength?

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Cardinal Financial Company (Charlotte, NC) in Mar 2022
First screening takes place with their recruiter while my second was with my boss. The interview was very informal, asked about some of my experiences and wasn't a very technical interview
- Tell me a little about your duties in your last role

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Cardinal Financial Company (Baltimore, MD) in Oct 2021
Applied and was emailed for an interview. Set up the interview and was told the following information: The position is commission only and the average loan officer will earn a minimum of $40k/yr and up to $70k/yr from direct customer inquiries. Other business is self generated by utilizing call leads which they provide(cold calling). You will get out of it what you put into it, but be prepared to answer calls from your customers if they call at 8, 9 or 10pm. They provide 2 weeks unpaid training. (not sure how good, as some reviews said the training wasn't effective) There's the opportunity during training to have a surrogate work your loans, so you can generate points. Commissions are based on a point system that (from what I gather)ranges from .05% to 1%. BENEFITS: They offer 401K. Employees can request 5% match, but it is granted on a case by case - not a given. Vision, Dental & Medical, but not sure how comprehensive it is. WORK/LIFE BALANCE/SUPPORT : Can work hours that are flexible from home & they provide equipment (laptop, two monitors headset and PC) and have a tech come out to set it up. Have the option to work in the local branch as well. They service all 50 states including DC. They have 24 hour tech support and state of the art, proprietary software called Octane, which they have developed. The Branch Manager (who I interviewed with) was very pleasant and said that he and several other people who he listed by name, would be there to support me if I decided that I wanted to pursue the position. He answered all of my questions gladly!
- He asked me if I knew it was a commission only job off the bat. I didn't, so we mostly talked about the position. I asked questions and he answered. He said if I was interested and decided that this was something I wanted to do to give him a call and he would set up another interview.

Zoom call with two leads who were both asking questions. Super easy interview if you had mortgage experience and were familiar with their loan origination system, Octane. Extremely nice and accommodating leads who were also available for questions at the end of the interview.
- How to handle a difficult customer.
