nterview Experience: Strong Interviews, Weak Follow-Through
I interviewed with Elastic and completed two rounds of interviews: an initial conversation with a recruiter followed by an interview with the hiring manager. Both interactions were positive, professional, and well conducted. The people I spoke with were engaging, respectful, and represented the company well.
Where the experience fell short was communication after the interviews. Following my discussion with the hiring manager, I went approximately five weeks without receiving any update on my candidacy. After multiple weeks of silence, I sent a follow-up email to inquire about my status and did not receive a response. Later that same day, I received a rejection notice from the recruiter.
While I understand that hiring decisions can take time and that priorities can change, candidates invest significant time preparing for interviews and deserve transparent communication throughout the process. A brief update during the five-week gap—or a response to my inquiry before the rejection—would have created a much better candidate experience.
Overall, the interviewers themselves left a positive impression, but the lack of communication after the interviews significantly detracted from an otherwise strong experience.
