      Software Engineer Interview

      Dec 15, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Electronic Arts (Austin, TX) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I had a brief screener with an HR, which was very helpful and informational. Then I got a second phone interview, this time with the TD for the position and was asked to program in C# *over the phone*. Not Skype, not a Google Doc, it was done over the phone *verbally*. This is the single worst interview that I have ever received in my 4 years, it is completely unfair to applicants, especially considering the company works *in a visual medium*. Other AAA companies at least Skype you and screen share for these kinds of interviews. Other companies have even done a Google Doc share. I've never programmed in an interview setting without a whiteboard or some kind of visual aid to clarify to the interviewer. You would never be expected to do this in the real world, either.

      Easy interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Electronic Arts

      Interview

My experience with the initial recruiter screening was disappointing. The interviewer seemed disengaged, barely made eye contact, and treated the screening as a perfunctory task, wrapping it up in just 10 minutes. Despite my thorough preparation and follow-up questions, the conversation felt dismissive rather than professional.

      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Electronic Arts in Mar 2026

      Interview

The process was professional and moved at a great pace. It started with a recruiter screen, followed by a meeting with the hiring manager, and concluded with three panel interviews. Each conversation felt like a genuine peer-to-peer discussion about building high-performance platforms. The recruitment team was very communicative and open throughout the negotiation. Overall, a very positive experience.
