I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Fisher Investments in Aug 2024
Interview
Quick call with a recruiter that was a basic explanation of the role and minimal questions about background to express interest. Second call was with a recruiter who I was told would ask more questions about my background. The second call was a guy who hardly asked any questions at all about my background or qualifications (despite having extensive experience in various banks/brokerages/RIAs) and had a somewhat patronizing and smug tone. While I responded to the questions highlighting (unsolicited from him) past successes and how they would contribute to the duties of the IC role, it felt as though they were mostly being shrugged off. At the end I was told "they will be in touch in the next few days with next steps", however after the "few days" I received a generic email saying I was not qualified and no feedback would be provided. This is highly disrespectful and while it is possible they could have better candidates, I highly doubt that my experience (over 7 years in progressive bank/brokerage/RIA roles, including consultative relationship management and sales) is so far beneath their standard that I shouldn't receive an in person interview. Combined with the generic email and no feedback will be provided as a matter of policy, I would tell anyone to run from Fisher as fast as possible. If this is how they treat their candidates, I can't imagine an employee is also anything more than a number to them. Bullet dodged.
The initial phone interview felt incredibly rushed. Despite the position being marketed as a wealth management role, it is essentially a high-volume asset-retention phone center. The day-to-day focus is simply convincing clients not to transfer their money out of the firm rather than providing actual, comprehensive wealth management or tailored financial planning services. Very misleading job description.
