      Sales Associate Interview

      Jul 2, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at H&M in May 2012

      Interview

I was emailed by an HR Representative that asked if I were interested in an interview. After a few back and forth emails we settled on a date and time. I scheduled it during my lunch at my full time job. The HR Rep forgot to call. I emailed her that night and she claimed that she never got my phone number so she couldn't call me, even though my phone number was on the application and in the last email I had sent her. After finally having a phone interview with her, she said she would forward my application and interview results to various H&M stores in the area. During my interview I told them after summer, I had to take off every other weekend for school and the HR Rep assured me this was okay. A few days later I received a call from a store manager asking for an interview. I came in the next day and waited for my interview. The store manager did not tell the interviewing manager that I was coming, so I had to wait around for about 20 minutes. When I did have my interview it took about 10 minutes. Afterwards, she asked if I had any questions, to which I asked her whether or not my availability would be an issue in the fall. She replied it wouldn't. After the interview, she let me know that she would talk to the store manager and let me know. Later that day, she called and said they'd like to schedule me another interview with the store manager the next day and I happily accepted. When I came in the next day, it took awhile for the store manager to come in and interview me. When he did, he stated most of the questions would be the same as before. As we got started, I found that he was extremely unprofessional. He asked me about how my previous experience would relate to the position, describe a time when you had to work with a team, and what might I be clueless about. After that he asked me about whether I was going to school and if so what my major was. I told him I studying Early Childhood Development. He rolled his eyes at my response mid sentence. Then came the availability. I started to tell him about needing every other weekend off and he cut me off saying, "Sorry, I think I'm done." I was very confused and stared at him from across the table. He then snapped at me and said, "I'm not going to hire you!" On my way out the door, he told me they don't hire people who don't have an open availability and can't work weekends. So be warned, if you want to work here, your schedule must be completely open.

Great process and team, connecting with everyone felt very easy. I had some behavioral questions and some about my experience. Ultimately they decided to move forward with someone else. I would recommend giving it a try.

Then we were split into different teams and were given a hypothetical customer who wanted help with their outfit - we had to create an outfit accordingly therefore roamed around the store to find clothing items that fit the brief. Afterwards, we explained why we chose those clothes and then were asked x2 competency-based questions.
