I applied for the job online. About a month later I received an email that they want to set up an initial phone screen. The phone screen was 30 minutes and it went well, but it took them about two weeks to initiate next steps. The next steps included a take home test. I did the test and sent it back, but they never emailed me to acknowledge they received it or how I did. I emailed to follow up, but they never replied. It's been about a month and I have not heard from them.
The way a company handles the hiring process is a big reflection on them and whether I want to work for them or not. Given that I not only spent time prepping for interviews and participating in them, but also spent time doing their take home test, they could have the decency to respond and close out the process.
Hopefully they do better in the future and recognize that a quick email, even with bad news, would leave candidates feeling like they did not waste all their time applying and interviewing. Please respect our time as we respect yours, job hunting is already hard enough without companies leaving us in the lurch to try and decipher what went wrong or why.
