I applied in-person. I interviewed at Home Depot Canada
Interview
My interview was very relaxed. Very personable and my interviewer did an excellent job at maintaining a casual conversation throughout the process, while keeping everything straight and to the point.
1 HR screening
1 virtual interview with the hiring manager
1 in person case study
My interview experience with this company was disappointing and unprofessional at multiple stages. The first‑round virtual interview began 10 minutes late, Yes, all companies interview many candidates, but they are respectful of their time. The questions felt unfocused — including one asking me to describe a time I received harsh criticism — and didn’t reflect a structured or thoughtful evaluation process.
For the second‑round onsite interview, HR sent me the exact same instructions as the first round, stating it would be a behavioral‑based interview. However, it turned out to be a case study instead. This miscommunication created unnecessary confusion and showed a lack of coordination between HR and the interview team.
The onsite experience itself raised even more concerns. While waiting, I watched another candidate be greeted warmly with a handshake and a friendly introduction. In contrast, my interviewer didn’t even approach me. She stood off to the side and waited for me to walk over to her, without offering a handshake or any professional greeting. When we entered the interview room, her manager remained seated, didn’t stand up, and didn’t shake my hand either. The overall tone felt dismissive and disengaged.
The case study prompt — a grocery delivery company facing complaints about CO₂ emissions and excessive plastic usage — was reasonable, but the interviewers’ lack of professionalism overshadowed the content of the discussion.
Overall, the process felt inconsistent, poorly communicated, and lacking basic respect for candidates. First impressions matter, and based on how applicants are treated, I’m not confident in the company’s internal culture or leadership standards.
Interview was professional but also was conversational. One with a smaller hiring manager and 1 other person, then with a smaller panel. They let me know their decision in a few short days by phone.
