Coordinator reached out to schedule an interview. Exciting! But there was no pre-screening call to discuss details about the position. Just straight to the hiring manager. I was referred in so perhaps that is why? Strange but OK.
Scheduling. Must be within the next 3 days. In person. But I am on vacation! I ask to push out to 5 days (the day I return home). Coordinator finds this unacceptable. The interview is scheduled via Teams.
I cancel vacation plans and prepare for the interview. Find a place & get set up. Worth it for an opportunity with a seemingly great employer!
I wait 10 minutes, no one arrives. Finally the hiring manager joins, confused as to why I am on Teams. I explain that I can meet in person, but the coordinator declined. Another 5 minutes of fiddling around while the hiring manager gets Copilot working for "their notes" which is fine but a bit odd - are they using that for in person interviews as well?
The interview finally starts, 20 minutes late. It is rapid fire generic questions, no real back & fourth conversation - despite this position apparently having about 100 people reporting into the role.
About half way through it is mentioned that we need to speed this up as they have a long list of questions to get through... well yeah, a lot of time was burned already & still no one has actually discussed the role itself. No real time for my own questions either. A bit bizarre for an executive level role.
After all that? Ghosted. Even after follow ups & an offer to meet in person to have a real conversation. Not even an automated rejection email.
MERCY - Please send your IT leaders to interview training. It felt as if the hiring manager has never interviewed anyone outside of entry level staff.
