I contacted the PI directly with my application. Got a phone interview with the PI within a week. Moved to the second round of interview with a 45 min presentation to the group and talked with other members one by one. Asked for reference letters afterwards. Due to the COVID-19, I didn't have an onsite interview, so I cannot go and look around the whole institute's working space and the surrounding environment.
The interview process was overall fairly easy. The interviewers were friendly and the conversations were tailored to research interests, goals and experience. The process began as a panel interview followed by one on one interview.
The HR interviewed me and asked questions one by one. One day, one person. A total of 8 HR interviewed me, and each person talked for one hour with me, so I spent 8 hours.
